Got blasted with a monster storm here in Utah and had to kick it in 4hi. all 4 spin up just fine but when I am at speed (no more than 20mph) and let off the pedal it makes a weird sound. Not sure if its a grinding or vibrating noise, no lights come on the dash. Pretty puzzled.
Its on an 07 f150

Check the vacuum hoses in the front that supply the front end. I had the same problem and it was one of the hoses so I fixed it with a 1/4"t" and stuck the 3 houses into it. Haven't had a problem since.

What specifically does that noise mean for the 4x4?
