Is it really that bad or are people just unlucky

I'll echo what others re saying, what you see here, other forums, YouTube, etc. is s sampling of issues amplified by the guise of be an anonymous mouth. What I'll call the armchair quarterback phenomenon going worldwide for any and every topic you can imagine. And some you can't.
If you look, you will find the same thing for every other brand in the market. All will have problems, most are not widespread. I firmly believe that overall the top 4 truck brands have vastly improved over the past several years. Competition is forcing them to do so. The downside is the prices are reaching incredibly stupid levels.
My 2004 Tritoon rig was really terrible compared to my 17. Only ~4500 miles so far, but it's been great.
And for the warranty, I chose to not add a warranty at time of purchase. As long as you get it before the standard factory warranty expoires you can add it if needed for significantly lower cost in most cases.
My only regret is that I got a bit caught up in the shopping and wanting to get it done that I missed a few things. I assumed a few features were standard between the XLT and the Lariat but I was wrong. In the end I probably would be happier with the tech of the Lariat but am more than satisfied with the XLT with 302a

No matter who's truck you buy, there will be issues, it is the nature of the beast. I have a 16 Lariat EB 502a, and man, the tech is great. It had issues from the start, door locks freezing an hour after getting it, radio not turning on, etc. So far all minor issues, so far all fixed. I still have a steering issue that has yet to be diagnosed, that started around15K miles the first time I towed.
Overall though, the truck has been great since I got it in Jan this year, and have just over 26K miles on it so far. Engine runs great, trans great, it's nice and quiet inside, and after a slight adjustment to the seat cushion, comfortable on long drives.
My 2014 before it was even better. Had a battery saver issue that was a software fix, and that was it. 63,000 miles until it got smashed, and no issues at all. It was a Lariat 501a RWD.
Just find the one you like and go for it. More likely than not, you wont have any issues with it.

I wondered the same thing when I bought my truck. Tons of issues mentioned on the forums. Someone told me, "people come to forums to complain and fix issues, not talk about how awesome and trouble free their truck is." And he was right. Some of us do come on to look for mods or things to do to our trucks, but most come here to find fixes for issues. So it makes it seem like there are way more issues than there actually are.
Get an extended warranty of you are worried about it, they are pretty cheap.

I'd say its about the same as always. However, with the easy access of social media, you just hear about it more. I have been into fords for over 25 years and have never had any major issues on any of my trucks.

I've not had any of the issues that pop up on here. Cracked fog lights (I've got one leaking, but not cracked), dash warp - nope, misaligned doors - one is a little odd looking but nothing major, excessive wind noise - nope, trans issues - nope. The only one I will say is widespread is due to a design flaw. The cooled seats don't cool the backs well, or at all at times. The heating up while cooling hasn't happened in my case. There's a fix on the forum of a guy that is making 3D printed parts to better direct the air, has had tons of positive results.
This truck is excellent. The 5.0 is very strong, and incredibly faster than my 5.4 was in my '07. The tech works wonderfully and felt like I was sitting in a rocket compared to my '07. It's a 502A FX4, so I've got the trailer backup assist, hill descent, and trailer brake controller. Like others have said, forums attract people looking for assistance with issues. The things discussed here are generally not widespread, so take them with a grain of salt.

I have to buy used dont want new payment price...lol, I find what I like and buy it then research to see how bad I screwed up or read what to watch for, that way I kinda have a heads up. My issues with my new truck was mifires, rear slider not working, power mirrors wouldnt fold and the worst one drivers seat wont heat/cool. I got a extra 1k trade in to take as with risk, and so far beating the odds, misfires was plugs/boots 60.00, rear window was just frozen, and someone ran screws in the mirrors so they wouldnt fold.
Now the seat has been the most costly due to parts and still not working yet, but I will figure it out. Overall its been great so far and still makes me smile to drive it, so buy one and love it, as many others said hit other forums theres problems with what ever you buy.......either you get a good one or junk...lol

I think all vehicles have quirks. And just about every assembly line has its bad days. We could argue that f250's have a recall on some about not going into park properly, or some of the rams have issues with ecodeisels forcibly relocating pistons or chevies with dex cool. Nissan titans with cam shims ejecting, honda's cute attempts at pickup trucks and toyotas with shrapnel airbags.
Im sure you get the point. They all have issues. But you only hear the bad.
Do you like it? Buy it. Enjoy it.
