True. But now that digital monitoring/regulation of cell charge level has drastically improved we are going to see many more uses for high-output rechargeable Li batts.

I'm not positive but I think that some of the newest hybrids and plug-in electrics are using Li cells. Current generation Prius certainly is not though.

edit: I did some checking and it looks like the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf are using Li. Ford Focus EV will run on Li as well.

Yeah, the MB S-Class was the first application of Li-Polymer batteries in the automotive industry IIRC. I am glad they have come to cars, their energy density makes NiMH batteries look positively prehistoric.

And that is why they are called a Pri-us. Pri-us out of this wreck, Pri-us out from under this truck.

Very true!! i always try to park a little far away, cause i would rather walk an extra 50 feet than have a car fire!

but as far as the prius, thats unfortunate. where are the batteries located? under the inside? cause it has a gas tank somewhere too.
