The "non"-recall
A few weeks back, Ford announced there was a safety related recall on 2011-2012 vehicles (including F150s) for an issue with the 6R80 transmission. My daughter has a 2012 Expedition, so I looked up the build date from the VIN and it was in the range of the recalled vehicles.
She called the dealer and they said there where no recalls or TSBs in OASIS. I also checked online (Ford ETIS) by VIN and nothing came up.
Well, I happen to have a connection to Ford Service inside of the company (fellow retire who used to work there). After a few phone calls, it now appears that OASIS use the VIN to find the transmission serial number and transmission build date ! Based on the trans build date, it was not on the recall list !
The dealer and most Ford (current and retired) employees did not know they OASIS not also tracked transmission build dates and could exclude vehicles based on that !

I noticed the other day when I changed my fluid and filter on my 2012 it had a transmission strategy and I believe serial number on a sticker on the drivers side above the pan when I removed it.
I just used my Ford Owner log in and the recall notice was there.
There is a thread for the F150 recall, but I imagine that the method for other vehicles is the same. They will mail a letter via snail mail to let those affect know but that a repair for the issue (guessing the pcm software) won't be ready until fall.

My point 'zactly!
I supply to the auto industry and have always had to develop ways of tracing lot numbers, shipments of individual components to multiple assembly plants, etc. Seems like all of our customer can't trace squat but we can tell them what we delivered to their door on what dates!
