Why Ford doesn't program the the IWE's to engage with the selection of 4A is beyond me.
I may have misunderstood your reply. When you select 4A, the IWEs engage, and stay engaged. The transfer case will then direct power front and rear as needed. The grinding usually occurs when the truck is in 2H, and really doesn't matter which Tcase is on the truck. One of the indicators is to put the truck in 4A/4H to see if the grinding stops. If it does, the grinding is usually caused by the IWEs trying to engage due to vacuum loss somewhere.

Those were good systems, but nowadays, we can't have mussy Dockers and scuffed loafers.

Yea, I have a feeling they are going to pull this crap if I bring my truck back in. I was surprised it was not done on my truck, all they did was replace the check value and reflash the TCCM.

Did it take care of a problem? That reflash had to do with the diff warmup mode. I never had it done my '17, I just went ahead and replaced the checkvalve, no more trouble.

To think we fixed my buddies this way 2 years ago, the vacuum line going to the IWE's was leaking, it was about 9:30 at night so we plugged it until the next day after the parts store opened since he was trying to go to work. I asked him about it a week or so later and he said the mechanic at work said that was the first thing the company tells them to disconnect on their new Fords so they don't screw up the hubs down the road.

Don't know yet, I just got the truck back about 3 hours ago. There was a problem with the control valve in the transmission causing rough shifting (the valve was not closing). I think they just change the check valve and flashed the TCCM so I would not bitch at them. But, I was surprised about the transmission issue. No worries, Ford just paid the dealership 1800 to fix the problem and I got a transmission service at 54K for free (Plus a rental while they worked on it)!!

Cool, I guess I haven't been talking out the wrong end of my face. I've gotten in the habit of just telling guys to pull the power on the solenoid, it closes and blocks vacuum to the IWEs. Easy to get to, just pop the hood, and there it is.

You sure can't complain about that, good on them. Glad nothing came out of your pocket!
