We traded in a Ranger too, 11 years also and were never really happy with those seats on long trips. Ours was a 2007, and we got $8,400 trade-in.

Maybe the accelerator/brake pedals need to be adjusted along with the seats.
Those pedals are adjustable you know.

My XLT was a mild pain in the back UNTIL i played around with all the adjustments and then my back just got used to it.
My wife is 5' 3" and I am 6' 7" so the pedals go in and out as the seat goes forward and way back according to who is driving!

They might not be the best seats I have sat in but they certainly aren't the worst!

Those who don't have back issues would never know the pain those of us who do have them can go through if the seat is not perfect. While adding 2" of padding helped, it still isn't perfect, but the door handle has a lot to do with that. If it weren't sticking out I could move my left leg just a little more then it would be just about right.

Does anyone have any insight into replacing the seats with power seats? Difficulty of running the new harness? I found a set of harness's and seats on eBay.

I've had power seats in every of my last 15 vehicles, but i honestly wouldn't care if i didn't have them because once i set them, they stay that way anyhow.

I understand back problems, sciatica problems etc. Making seats that will be comfortable for everyone is an impossibility. No different from a bed mattress. Best they can do is start somewhere in the middle of the road and hope to have enough adjustability to have them work for as many as possible.

Will never be 100%.

So trying to figure the comfortable position using towels, cushions, etc. one option is to replace the seats with either a Corbeau or Rugged Ridge seat. The only item I'm unsure of is what to do with the airbag in the seat? The new seats are not made for side air bags.

I've had 2 lower back surgeries. My 13 and 14 F150s, my '00 F150 (inherited from my dad), and my 17 Ram 1500 have all been perfectly comfortable and not painful on my back.

My wife's camry on the other hand, torture.

Your body may need to adjust to the seat. I buy and sell weekend cars pretty often. Every time I get something different, my back hurts for a few days. Then I get used to it and the pain goes away.

Default Update

So I bought some bed top foam at Walmart and a seat cover. Been layering and shaping the seat with the foam then holding it all together with the seat cover. No real improvement till today. We continue to experiment.
