I'm not saying it's right but when you look at the numbers and at the business side of things it's amazing that there aren't more problems.

Toyota rightfully gets credit for making the most reliable truck in the business. But Toyota's assembly line moves a lot slower than Ford's and their parts are made in smaller batches. Not only that but Toyota uses old proven technology. Slow assembly, small batch production and old technology all lead to excellent build quality and reliability.

Toyota sold 116,285 Tundras in 2017. Ford sold 896,764 F series in the same year. Now if Ford slowed the assembly line down to Toyota's pace and was making a 10 year old truck they would equal Toyota's quality record. Keep in mind that all of the F series suppliers, engine plants, transmission plant, etc are also running their assembly lines at break neck speed to keep up with demand. With all that in mind Ford's long term durability isn't as good as Toyota but it's not that far off either. There are plenty of F-150s with 200,000+ miles on them. Their build quality is far lower than Toyota and that is due to the speed of the assembly line. The workers aren't taking or don't have time to fit parts correctly. Sunroof drain tubes not connected, misaligned panels etc are disappointing. Ford's problems usually rear their ugly head early in the ownership experience because of the poor build quality. If you have a Ford truck with few problems in the first couple of years you got a good one that's going to last the long haul.

My 14 was a good truck, no issues at all. Guess it took Ford 5 years to get it right. That should make the 2020 models exceptional.

Unfortunately all truck related forums regardless of brand are filled with complaints because unless you are making upgrades there is not much to discuss. Not saying the complaints are not legitimate.

usually they are a very small % of the number of trucks on the road, but if it’s happening to you it’s a really big deal. These trucks cost a fortune so the factory should stand behind them and make them right.

Sounds like Ford is going for quantity over quality.

You really think Toyota doesn't want to sell 800,000 trucks a year? If they could they would, just like they do the Camry and Corolla.

If I ever get a vehicle that replaces our former Chrysler T&C that currently resides in my "Most disappointing vehicle in terms of quality" top spot, I may just set it on fire in my driveway. I know all vehicles can have problems, but when you get one that has problem after problem from pretty much the time you buy it till you unload it, it can turn off from a brand forever. Sucks to go thru that's for sure. I'm happy to say my F150 is still pretty new, and I have nothing but good things to say about it so far

My 2005 F150 (4.6L, 2valve) with 195,000 miles is still going strong.

Ford's not a luxury vehicle brand, it's an average one. Ford's also not a quality brand, but a quantity brand, which is just fine for its purpose.

Coming from an history of owning Japanese vehicles, I can say that the quality is not there at all. I love my f150 and its great interior, but the materials used are cheap, the finition is not what it could be and the customer service is awful. Last vehicle was a Lexus and let me say that Ford's customer service is nothing compared to Lexus. I've had several issues with mine so far (1x/month at the dealership for problems) and not satisfied at all with the way they treated me.

Approaching the 1y mark owning my F150, I can confirm that my next vehicle will not be a Ford. Lexus it will be.
