Actually I found a 1996 truck that would be worth money. This is because it was special.......and not mass produced.

1996 Hummer H1 | Hemmings.com

But you notice that guy won't even get what he paid for it new(if you include inflation from 1996). Vehicles in general are NOT investments.

@djfllmn Considering I paid $1000 for it and will have maybe $500 into it? Yeah, I feel pretty confident with a tripling of my money. But at least you're not making assumptions without more data...

@ReaperHWK So I guess you missed the part where I said "Having said that, I think I agree with djfllmn and that the increase in value would not likely be enough to offset storage costs..."

The same paint job I've always done, in my own garage. I'm no expert, so I have to do more wet sanding than a pro, but my results are great.

It will never be a real "valuable" truck, and this doesn't make financial sense given the opportunity costs associated with it. F150's (especially normal trims) are simply too plentiful. In 1996 Ford sold more than 3/4 of a million F series trucks. It just wont happen.

Around here the obs trucks are going up in value. The 300 six is a good motor and will run a long time. I've been watching the ads , looking for a firewood truck. It's not worth putting in long term storage tho.

Long term storage (years) is never good for any vehicle. (Corrosion, dry rot, chemical breakdown of fuel and fluids, ect)

Much better to restore and sell or keep it and drive it often.

BTW - I had the straight six 300 cid engine in my 1980 F100. Way better than any of the three 5.0 L V8 (302 cid) in my 1989, 2000, or 2020 F150s.

Chris, Truckguy, UnclePauly: Thanks guys, that's kinda what I figured from the start, but I too couldn't help but notice the prices of these trucks, as well as just paying attention to the general sentiment of people regarding them. They seem to be the last generation of trucks that were built right before things went electronic, plastic, and/or lack of quality. So I think that pretty much settles it, I'll just paint it, button it up, and sell it. I really don't want to, but I don't have a choice unfortunately lol

I only skimmed this thread, but didn’t see pics or detailed description of current body/paint condition. generally speaking, if I was in market for a truck like that, I’d prefer to buy one with original paint (even if faded and less than perfect), vs a fresh repaint.

I'm with everyone else. I don't think it'll appreciate as much as you hope. Maybe inflation will help you "get more" for it in the end, but won't be a significant jump in value. They made a LOT of these trucks. I'm sure there are some survivors sitting around in garages too..
