Default FX4 decision

Close to pulling trigger on 2018 XLT screw and they color that I want has the FX4 package. This is going to be my daily c/commuter. I am not going to do any off roading at all with it just regular roads and highways. I read that it comes with a different suspension and tires. If the ride going to be rougher. Does the truck sit higher?

Thanks in advance

I’d recommend you to just go test drive it and decide if the ride is what you want. No matter what we say, it’s going to come down to you trying it out and deciding for yourself.

my fx4 is my daily. i dont tow or go off road. it isnt the smoothest riding vehicle out there, but it isnt unbearable by any means. i feel alot of the complaints are over exaggerated.

Directly from the 2018 brochure

"“FX4 Off Road” decals on your pickup box
let everyone know you’re capable of serious, off-road travels. On XL through PLATINUM 4x4 models, the FX4 Off-Road Package equips your truck to get out there with an electronic-locking rear differential, underbody skid plates that help protect the front differential, transfer case and fuel tank, Hill Descent Control,TM and off-road- tuned shock absorbers. Monitor the action from the driver’s seat on the off-road display in the productivity screen."

Get the FX4 package. You like the color it comes with (huge factor on if you like your truck or not, IMO) and get all those cool features. I daily drive my '13 FX4 55+ miles a day with 34" heavy mud tires (117 lbs wheel and tire) and it rides fine. The 2018 150 even with the off road shock absorbers (probably won't tell a difference between that and normal ones) is going to ride beautifully

My FX4 is my daily driver and provides the best ride of any vehicle I've ever owned. It delivers me over any surface in complete comfort.

After a long commute I feel refreshed and ready for anything.

Recently purchased an 18 with the FX4, first time driving a Ford with the FX4 and I've noticed the ride quality is better and smoother. It's my daily driver as well

I traded my 13 XLT Screw 4x4 in on a 17 KR FX4 and couldn't believe how much better the 17 rides and drives!

2014 FX4 here, and love it. I did notice that when building them online, the FX4 package had the gear ratio I wanted in the build. So if i chose the gears specifically I think it was a $450 option and the FX4 was like $700 total, so $250 seems worth it for the other pieces etc. Just food for thought

I like it just for the hill descent control.

The FX4 package is pretty much a joke for off-road use. If the shocks really are different I doubt you'd notice anything. Ride height is the exact same as non-FX4 package trucks. The FX4 package pretty much just adds some crappy skid plates, a locker (which you can add regardless), and the hill decent which I've never used in the past 12 years of off-roading (my last truck had hill decent as well) and the stickers so you can prove the world that you're down with leaving the pavement.

I'm not sure if the FX4 package adds all-terrain tires or not, but if so they'd still be pretty mild and wouldn't hurt the ride much, if at all. Tires are a wear item anyway, you'll be replacing them before you know it.
