The problem with these types of products is that those who use them swear by them, but how do you quantify it? "I used product X and I have over 180k miles on my truck!" But you may have that longevity without it also, right?
On the upside, such products rarely do any harm unless you misuse them.

Maybe it does work....maybe it doesn't...
But the way I see it, they're being sold, there's a market for them, so they must be doing something right.

Non recommended by Ford...
The 5.0 is FFV rated (flex vehicule). I would think that the engine is built to prevent these issues (we know that ethanol is harsh on fuel systems/injectors...).

Renaissance Honky
Nothing is needed as long as everything is working as designed. That doesn't always happen, and things can get ugly real quick.
When you're looking at $20 of add-in chemicals or a full tear-down & clean, Whatcha gonna do? There's a lot of snake oil out there, for sure, but there are some things that work, and work well.
There's also some stuff out there with near-cult followings and a lot of people that think they know more than they actually do.
Anecdote: I used to work at a local Farm/Fleet retailer, and when SeaFoam went on sale, we were moving a full pallet of the stuff every couple days. It's like people drank the stuff. Sure, it has its uses, but more people use it for things it's not good at than anything else. And then they're disappointed. And that's how things get branded as 'Snake Oil'.
