Ford to drop Microsoft from SYNC
Maybe Ford simply wasn't satisfied with Microsoft's response to the complaints with the Sync system.
Being in IT for as long as I have though, I have a gut fear of anything that Blackberry/RIM has their fingers into lately. I don't get the warm fuzzies from this.
I would bet most peoples issues with Sync are user error and not the system. I liked it on my 2010 and have no issues on my 2013.....
As to the real reason Ford is dumping SYNC, here it is.

If a large percentage of Ford customers feel that SYNC is a buggy system, and make their feelings known, you end up being rated at the bottom of the rankings, below Dodge, and tied for last with Jeep.
Microsoft seems to think that people will accept bugs in their $40,000 vehicle like they do with their $1,000 Windows computer. They are wrong.
I've had Blackberry, Android, and Apple and to be honest I like the two iPhones I have had (and currently have the 5s) best.
And I don't think Ford is going with Blackberry as the OS, but RIM (Blackberry's parent company) bought the company that makes the OS for Mercedes and Audi. I think it's best to not go with a specific smartphone platform because not everyone has the same OS. If they were to use Android, I doubt it would be very compatible with my iPhone and vice versa.
Also, my wife and I have had really no issues with her 2010 Escape. Both of our phones work just fine. I have had more issues when driving Volvos for work because the screen reads that I am playing a different artist and/or song than what's actually playing most of the time.

So when they install the new OS system in the new Ford products what is to happen to us who have the current SYNC system in our vehicles? Will it just not be un useable or will there be a patch or a hardware and software swap? I have not even had my first oil change yet and now this.
Never had any major issues with sync and can say I am pleased.
Nothing is bug free, especially when it comes to software/firmware. Perhaps knowing this gives me proper expectations and why I am pleased.

I am also sure there is a contract with Microsoft to continue support for as long as the systems are under warranty plus some.
