Default F150 engine choices

Sometime in next couple months thinking of ordering my First F-150. Ive owned ford products in past and never had too many issues. For the F-150, i was thinking about the powerboost...but dont know about 3k for it. Ive got a few questions,
the 2.7 ecoboost or the 3.5 ecoboost whats the average mpg like? any issues? is the powerboost worth it?. I dont plan on doing much towing besides occasional basic trailer, 90% of the time commuting and dump runs when needed. thanks for the input!

My $0.02: Any of the petrol engines will give you decent MPGs and close to the ratings on the sticker if the majority of your driving avoids stop & go driving, hard acceleration/braking, elevation changes and towing. Basically, don't drive like a DB and avoid towing & hauling and you'll get stated MPGs. Start adding those factors and MPGs generally suffer, especially when the turbos are whining. Powerboost? If you plan on spending most of your time in the city and not towing, I'd consider a PB. Lots of highway, towing and/or hauling? No way, not for me.

The 7.2kw will really come in handy on those commuting drives and dump runs. 90%.

The 2.7 is the least expensive, gets the best fuel mileage and will tow as much as most people will ever tow. IF PROPERLY EQUIPPED. From what I'm seeing though most of the trucks with 2.7's in them are not really set up to do much other than get great fuel mileage. If you're ordering one, make sure it has the right tow packages and axle ratios.

While you say you won't tow much now you never know what you may need 2-3 years from now. I'd rather have a little more truck than I need now than have to trade up to something more capable if my needs change in the future.

your right, id rather future proof for a while, Ive owned a 01 ranger 2wd, a 14 Fusion hybrid (great MPGs but smaller trunk and no power..i know thats the point), and currently have a 17 fusion (2.0 eco). bought a house couple years ago and was lucky to have relatives near by with trucks, but getting tired of depending on others and got suggested i should get a truck sometime. thought about a 21 ranger but i know ill end up trading for new gen next year...rather get something to last 10yrs atleast.

played with the 21 f150 builder (22 not up yet) might go with lariat with power boost (thought about the 2.7), basic tow package, not sure about 4wd or not, couple of my co-workers told me they haven't used there 4wd in couple years so.

4x4 really does depend on the person, I only use mine a handful of times a year, but when i need it i need it. some people may never use it, you really do have to look at your use case.

Another thing to consider is resale. Here in the North you can't give away a 2WD truck.
