EPA MPG vs real world MPG clarified
Alex, would you mind trying again with that post. This time with sentences that can be understood without interpretation. My fourth-grade son can write better than that.
It is pretty close to broken in right now, tolerances are much closer with modern engines you might gain a little from the drivetrain with a small break in.
My '17 eco gets 1 mpg better than my heavier '16 did. I typically get 18 mpg running from 70-75 mph. If I slow down to 60 I can get over 20 mpg but on a 650 mile trip to Colorado for example that's several hours longer. I would rather pay for more fuel than waste time
New 2019 f150 xlt sport package 6.5 foot bed and super crew can with 3.5 ecoboost. If I drive it very carefully I can get over 20. 21-22. If I drive it like I do with a heavy foot I am running 18.
Towing it drops like a rock. I have a 14k tag a long trailer. Too much for an f150 but it’s what I have. Trailer probably weighs around 3000 I guess. Hauled a 3500 lbs piece of equipment on it. Round trip of 200 miles one way empty I averaged 8.9 mpg. Ran another trip hauling a pump that weighed about 4000 lbs. I ran hard that night. Got about 7 on that one.

Using my wife's 2019 F-150 XL 3.3 awd for a month and I got 13 in city and 16 at highway real world MPG. I used https://mpgfinder.com/ford/f-150 to compare. Actually, I'm a little bit glad that when I compare it is slightly close with the EPA rates.
My 2018 with a 3.3 6 cyl. does mostly towing duty back and forth to the lake with a 2300lb boat. 20 miles each way 3 days a week with an occasional errand during the week. My dash shows 15 mpg average. Not great, but much better than my '06 4.2 6 cyl. did.
The best tank I have had was about 400 miles in Kansas and Colorado on US 40, cruise set at 75, transmission in manual locked down in 6th. Tach on 2000 rpm. Results were 23.0 mpg, It was a unique trip in that in the middle of June it was 70F light rain for hours. Didn't have to run the A/C. My overall average hand figured since new is 20.9 mpg. Not much range in numbers high to low. This has been a very good engine. Put 290 HP in a 4100 lb truck and it will surprise, in MPG and how quick this truck is. YMMV
Here is my Fuelly file since the truck was new.
