My thoughts exactly.

Reminds me of the Tundra forum I used to frequent when I had a Tundra. People all with 4.7L engines claiming anything from 10mpg to 22mpg. I think most of them simply didn't know how to properly calculate MPG average per tank. Relying on the onboard software/calculator isn't recommend with many cars. Although my F150 seems fairly accurate.

Biggest variables here compared to my old Tundra are the Tundra came in two cab configurations, and either a V6 or V8, 2wd or 4wd...and that's it. Then you factor in how many had oversized tires, lifts, aftermarket exhaust, chips, intakes, etc. Aftermarket exhaust was always the primary culprit for lowered MPGs on the Tundra.

I suspect the generalized numbers on F150s are almost useless since it comes in SO many variable configurations....cab size, awd, 4wd, 2wd, V6, several V8s, several transmissions, bed lengths, and then the owner added things like exhaust, tires, lifts, etc.

Without people specifying if their truck is stock or not, the numbers are meanigless.

Mine is an '08 SuperCrew Lariat, 4wd, 5.4L with dual exhaust, stock tire size and I'm averaging 13.5mpg with every tank.

Thanks TBK. I have no doubt that the EPA numbers can be exceeded--not normally and drivers behind you will be furious. With that, the EPA numbers are not at all reasonable. I do wonder why the can't just turn them loose in driving pace with normal traffic and tell us a fair and reasonable number.

I have been driving very slow and very light and getting close to 21 mostly on the freeway and around 60 mph. I don't recall passing anyone. This old guy on a 10-speed passed me though...LOL.

Perhaps that's why I posted a picture... yes the onboard meter is off...mine generally <1% my hand calc was 25.2
yes I drive slow. I'm the guy in the right lane doing the posted limit... to many tickets when I was younger...

Thats why I use Fuelly, for the naysayers like you. Combined with 7000 miles of towing trailers, over 51,000 miles life time average is 17.6. Remove all the towing from the calculations and it is right around 20 MPG Winter/Summer. Roughly 19 winter and 21 summer. I drive mine about 6 over the posted, 61 in the 55. On interstates I keep at the speed limit, really no reason to exceed 70 MPH, you really don't save much time going faster. The faster you go, the harder it is for the truck to break into the wind, which uses much more fuel. Simple physics really.

My philosophy is, if you feel you have to go faster than everyone else, don't bitch about the gas mileage.

I'm 100% positive my 13.5mpg has nothing to do with how I drive and everything to do with it being a 5.4L, 4wd, and having dual exhaust. EPA numbers for my truck are 13 city, 17 hwy.

I've love to see my average come out to be 15mpg. I'm hoping for a slight increase since putting new plugs in.

2016 F150 supercrew 4X4 with about 250 miles on it. Showing 16.5 avg right now but it goes up when I drive normal. Drops again after my wife gets a hold of it because she is absolutely the most un efficient driver that exists. Acceleration is quick to the next stop light, then repeat. Drives me nuts. I'm thinking if it's just me I could squeeze over 18 in town.

The old "on/off switch" brake and gas pedal mentality huh? My mom used to drive me crazy...floor it to start, hold the gas until the last second and then stomp on the brake pedal to stop. My wife was the same way when we first met but eventually got better. Still could use some work on modulating the gas pedal though.

She has improved slightly. She doesn't floor it and stops relatively smoother than she did in her economy car lol. However it's best to know your route and where the lights and steep hills are. I coast when I know I'm coming to an intersection because 9/10 I know I'm going to get stuck at the same light all the traffic flying by me is going to be stopped at. Sometimes I can time it for no stop which is best, but I'll reduce my speed a little if I need to up hills and catch back up on the downsides. Seems like alot of work but it's really not, and stay with the same pack of cars driving like **** most of the time.

The new Ford F-150 is just that good! I believe I would be around 22 mpg, but There are two stretches where I can glide from 60 mph to 30 mph so that really helps boost my gas mileage. It's a mix of rural driving and city, but there are only 3 lights. I've checked the mpg by filling the tank and resetting the trip odometer and it's right on. My truck is stock with only the addition of a roll-on liner and a bed mat.

So went on a longer drive today in town, mixed in some highway driving for several miles. Finished the trip bringing my mileage up to 18.4. I only have a few hundred miles on it and haven't even gone through a tank yet. I am actually happy and impressed with the mileage. My buddies Tundra sits around 13.5 so to say my expectations aren't being met would be dumb.
