Ecoboost engine blown
What about the jillions of warranties for all kinds of products that cover 'factory defects'? Most are not unlimited. After they expire, that 's it.
Are y'all saying that all factory defects should be warrantied forever?
Or when they expire, you should still be compensated somehow?
What is a warranty then?

OK well then let me use the word of your choosing....a forging defect. So Ford installed a defective part into one of their engines. To me, that's unacceptable. Either Ford or the piston manufacturer should have some of the blame. I'm not saying that they should replace the motor free of charge but by installing a defective part into his truck, they have shown negligence and a lack of quality control.
And I'm curious. How do you know. How can you tell? Certainly can't verify it's true but it makes for great reading....
I have a hard time believing that if it was a defective piston that it would last over 60k before it let go. There is a lot of force on a piston during the compression and power stroke cycles of a turbo-charged engine, especially with your foot in it. Sounds like something else was going on here. If the piston was destroyed it might have been detonation.
Unfortunately Out of Warranty means just that.
I would hope Ford could help you our, somehow.
My last two, 2014 and my New 2015 have the extended warranties. Both 3.5 Eco. One Lariat and the New 2015 Platinum.
My extended 2014 warranty was transferred to the 2015. I had to pay the difference, about, $1200.00.
I'm betting I will use the warranty and Ford is betting I won't.
It is what it is.
Good Luck

Hi. While I'm new around here, I'll take the middle ground, I both feel badly for the OP as anyone would. At the same time, I agree that the warranty has expired and while it would be nice for ford to step up, they don't have to.
That said, and with talk of extended warranties, I thought I'd mention I've had MBI, mechanical breakdown protection, through Geico on every new vehicle I've owned over the past 20 or more years. I have no affiliation with Geico other than as a policyholder.
It is phenomenal coverage that I've used many times. It's a $250 deductible for each occurrence and they pick up the repair cost. Rates were never raised as a result of making a claim. And the premium is very cheap, perhaps $100 a year or so.

Ford should have done something for the reason we are seeing in this post - bad publicity.
I had a 1985 Mazda B2000. At about 70k, it started leaking antifreeze from the block. Since I was out of warranty and dealers were twice as high as a neighborhood shop back then, I took it to my regular mechanic.
This gets a little fuzzy, but the mechanic took the engine apart and told me that the head was cracked. He actually showed me a hairline crack. He suggested that I contact Mazda and ask them about the deal.
Mazda told me that they would not send anyone to my mechanic shop to investigate (I even offered to pay), but if I had the truck brought to their dealership, they would investigate it there. IF it turned out to be a defective part, they would repair at their expense. I did have to pay for my mechanic's work, but was very grateful to him for telling me to contact Mazda about it.
I decided to take a gamble and have my mechanic box up all the parts and towed the truck to the dealer.
Here's the fuzzy part. Dealer said the head was NOT cracked. The line we saw was an imperfection in the casting. However, they did acknowledge that the head was warped, causing the leak. They repaired the engine at no cost, except for a few materials. I think I paid for coolant, thermostat and maybe new belts/hoses.
When I asked them why they would repair when the vehicle was clearly out of warranty, they said the issue was faulty head and they did not want to get a reputation for having faulty parts.

My dad had a 97 Silverado. The tranny went out at 60K. Chevy paid the majority of the rebuild cost. It's called goodwill money.
