I have an 8 camera dvr system just waiting to go online soon as I can breath inside the attic, gawd it's been hot.

Thanks! Already looking into it. Probably only need 4 camera here and already have an alarm system on the house. However, I agree, it's too damn hot to be in the attic. May just breakdown and pay someone else to install it.

Check out tigerdirect.com, they have the best prices. It's where I got my 4 cam system for my old house and the new 8 cam dvr for my new house, less than $500 and can be accessed with a smart phone or lap top if you hook it to your router.

What ever you select make sure you get Sony cams with night vision.

Rnlcomp we have the camera set up too. You can log on from anywhere and look around your house.

rjlynch13 I see your profile says Atlanta. Where in Atlanta are you located? it is a shame people are stealing vehicles to ram businesses to steal other stuff.

Yeah it is nice to be able to log in and have a look around when I'm on break at work, another gadget I have is a Honeywell central hvac remote control, it has wifi built in and connects thru my router the same way so when we leave in the morning we shut off the climate control and can turn it on on the way home so it's comfortable when we arrive.

It has it's own app for smart phones so you have full control, can turn the temp up/down, heat/ac on off, program it to what ever mode we want, turn the blower on/off. Pretty slick.

3 cams here. IP cameras. Driveway, covering front of house, and rear of house.

Easy to install, but does take a while to route all the cables. Have came in handy a couple of times!

The nest is a great thermostat, it is significantly more expensive than the Honeywell but is another option for people.

What can it do that my thermostat can't?

I seriously doubt it can do anything other than FULL control which the Honeywell offers unless it sets up a stripper pole and some 20 y/o ladies for my viewing pleasure when I come home from work.
