The bells and whistles on the higher end trucks do nothing for me. I can't see spending the money for anything over the XLT trim level and I'd be perfectly content with a lot of the XL's. But I'm me, not you.
I it were my truck I'd keep it to at least 120,000 miles or 10 years which ever came 1st.

Seems that most say keep the '12. Think Im leaning that way too, but man its tough to shake that new truck bug. The 12k I would put down on a new one would go along way in mods, fuel, and maintenance on my '12 & '02.

I'm in the same boat with my wife's 2012 SHO. I'd lean towards getting ride of it unless you plan to keep it forever. I mean forever. It's worth a good chunk of change right now. If you settle and keep it, a couple years from now you still want a new truck and make the plunge you just blew all your equity. Me and my wife have been going back and forth on this for about a month. The bridge by our house is getting redone and it's supposed to take close to a year. That means close to 20 miles of gravel roads on her nice car. I think we are going to sell it while it's still worth something. A year from now it will be worth less and all chipped up. A couple thousand dollar Subaru looks to be in our near future. Once the bridge is done we plan on getting a new black mustang.

2012 - So, I'm assuming you're coming to the end of a 5 year payment plan?
If you want a 17, but are worried about the new engine here's my compromise suggestion. Finish your payments to the bank, keep making the payments to yourself (set it aside). Wait till about July - August next year. You'll have a lot of guinea pigs on here to see how the buyer experience with the new engine/ transmission goes. If you like what you hear, you can take your nice chunk of change and put it down on the 17 KR. If not, keep your 12 another year and buy it something nice if she's being good to you.

I'd rather be sailing.
We do this in our car purchases. It allows for a nice savings account to grow. Most cars if purchased new and cared for will be paid for before they seriously break. Most cars now days.
Another thing we've done when we wanted to buy an expensive item was to get all costs related to the purchase insurance, maintenance, whatever, and make 6 months of TOTAL payments to ourselves prior to purchase without fault. It quickly helps you decide if that new item is affordable and still desirable. PLUS we have a chunk of savings!
Well, that is our method of expensive choices!
Pick what works for you though!
