There must be something wrong with my eyes, mind, or something. I've had fogs, OEM, in four different vehicles. I think they look good, but the only use I've ever had for them is basically so other drivers can see me coming in the rain/snow, instead of using the heads, during the day. I'm one of those that believe, "wipers on, lights on".
I had some money burning a hole in my pocket, so I replaced the OEM bulbs in the fogs on the 150, with LifeTime LEDs, for fogs. The only thing I noticed is that now the fogs match the color of my heads, zero improvement in visibility.
Other than looks, do you guys "REALLY" find a use for the fogs? Be honest now.
They provide some additional light obviously even during normal conditions, but they're also designed to make you visible while producing light beneath the area which fog exists.
I use mine at night more nowadays ever since I lifted. Just helps see a little more. But they aren't miracle workers.

the ones in my old truck were borderline useless. However I can tell a difference in my new one with them on(which they are on anytime my headlights are on). They really help light the road up

Now that I can understand.

I know on yours, you have rectangular type lights. So they help "you" see better? Do you have to manually turn them on, or are they automatic?
This is my first vehicle with them. For driving on the roads I find them rather useless. However, I use them regularly when navigating paring lots at night or in the rain/fog. Especially around my apt. where children or small pets could jump out from between cars. The added light to the sides of the vehicle is nice.
On the road, on a truck or SUV, in good weather, at night, they do more to distract other drivers than help you. You will never know how many folks you meet driving cars that are cussing you and flipping you off.
A lot of guys seem to use them as DRL in places where they aren't required. I haven't replaced the ones on my Ford yet, but the ones on my Wrangler were only available through a dealer and EXPENSIVE. I wouldn't be using those unless truly needed. Apparently the previous owner used them as DRL and burned them out very quick.
But at night, in truly heavy fog and when not meeting other drivers they are invaluable. But to be honest most people will run into very few times when they are truly needed. There have been times when driving at night on dirt mountain roads when I couldn't see 3' in front of the truck and was hanging out the window using the fog lights to find the edge of the road.
Stock fogs, in every vehicle I've had, don't do anything. They are more for LOOKS. I did find that on the stock F150's they DID add a BIT of light, but nothing that helped me.
When I put LED lights in my fogs (I did this as a trial actually, took a pair of LED lights for headlights, and put them in the fogs, same bulb size afterall as the high beams) and holy crap the difference it made.
As a joke I actually drove around town with my fogs SLIGHTLY aimed higher and the headlights off. I threw more light down the road then factory Headlights. It was great.
Now I have them aimed down more, more then stock (because there is a LOT of lumen with the LED's) and it really lights up the road in front of the truck.
Since that time, I actually switched to half the lumen on a new set of bulbs, but they are yellow. So I have nice yellow LED fogs.
Moral of the story... try upgrading your fog light bulbs to LED lights. It makes the world of difference and it's super easy to do. Should take you about 15 minutes the first time you remove the fogs (2 minutes if you know how to take the fog lights out of your truck)
I'd love to program my truck so the fogs are on with DRL mode... since I have LED lights in my headlights the headlights are on pretty much 95% of full power with DRL on, so might as well turn fogs on (plus I hate when it's JUST about turning dusk and the lights go on/off/on off because I drive in and out of the last bit of sunshine, rather they stay ON all the time)'
Check out how the truck looks with the LED fogs in both the white and yellow versions (the yellow kit I use has actually different color filters so you have lots of color options in 1 kit)

I agree . If you're counting on your fogs to show you something at night...at anything over 30mph, they're showing what you're about to run over.
