Daytime running lights
I dont see how it can really be a big issue on the new vehicles both my 1989 F150 and Thunderbird (same year) have daytime running lamps if you pull the **** out one click, and it dings if you leave them on as if you left the keys in. I dont see how it can be hard.
but if it does not ding for some reason then you may have a problem knowing if you did or did not turn your lights on or off... you can have this argument all day long.. the guy just wants to find a simple way to have daytime running lights without messing up the wiring in his new truck... give him a hand if you have a helpful suggest.
If you have headlights that come on automatically, just throw a hat or something else over the sensor when you turn your wipers on. If you forget about it, no big deal. They will shut off after you turn off the ignition.

You dont need an idiot light or a chime to remember those things...
Do you by chance still have trouble recalling which goes first when putting on underwear and pants?
I always thought the lights should automatically come on with the wipers, but I remember to do it manually. Something could be wired up cheaply, but I don't want to write it out how to do it if you're not going to.
I guess get in a habit, the chime in my truck is getting pretty faint (Thunderbird sounds new though, same chime) but getting in the habit of shutting them off is the same as putting your windows up and locking the truck at night, setting parking brake, putting your seatbelt on, anything...

Never with the Thunderbird but more recently with the truck since the chime is getting faint. Its easy to get in though because two alan wrenches and a pair of vice grips opens the wing window enough to put my arm through and unlock my door. It takes about 15 seconds with practice...
and raptor.. you still haven't said anythign productive in this thread to help the guy out besides 'deal with it' pretty much.. don't mean to be an *** but as I said before.. the guy wants some productive posts on how he can allow his driving lights to be on when the ignition is turned on, what relay would be best to hook up to the driving lights with the ignition/acc, etc... guess i'll do the research and give some more help besides telling him to pay attention to the chime and get over it... real welcoming
