Default Daytime running lights

Ohio passed a law that went into effect the 1st of Jan
that if you're using your wipers you MUST have the
headlights turned on or face a $100.00 fine.

My 2010 F150 has no daytime running lights. When I
ordered it I don't even remember being asked if I wanted
them.

My questions is; did Ford offer them in their F150's? Might
the wiring already be installed and all that is needed is to
plug in a relay?

I know sooner or later I'm going to forget to turn my head-
lights on while I'm using my wipers. Having daytime running
lights would solve the problem.

I believe you must also have your tail lights on too. So even if you do figure out a way to get DRLs, you'll have to turn on your tails if your wipers are on.

i think my moms escape has an auto headlight feature that if its dark or the wipers are on they come on, but my parents always taught me since the first day i drove to turn my lights on with my wipers, so its just habit for me

I like this idea http://www.raintracker.com/

would be nice if they had a kit that would also work with the headlights for it.

if u get the $80 kit it comes with the relay to control the headlights. the lights will come on with the wipers.

I just "Googled" the new law.. You DON'T have to have
tail lights ON. So just daytime running lights are ok.
Here is part of the law;
-----------------------------------------------------------------

"New Ohio law requires drivers to turn on lights whenever they use
windshield wipers.

If you flick your windshield wipers on, be sure you have some type
of lights illuminating the front of your vehicle, too. It's now the law.

A new Ohio law requires motorists to turn on their headlights
whenever the weather is bad enough to use their windshield wipers.

Daytime lights that automatically turn on when the vehicle is running
will fulfill that requirement. And warnings will be given for violators
over the next six months before citations are written."

--------------------------------------------------------------------
So that is going to make it a lot easier to build your own daytime
running light project IF my friendly Ford dealer doesn't offer a kit.

spdkilz02, thanks for the link... Another way to go also.

yeah I heard about the law also and my F150, and Ranger, and contour all do not have daytime running lights which really sucks compared to the GM's that all have em standard :/ I dont have wipers on my f150 or ranger though and they dont get driven much in bad weather either so i dont worry much..

Why not just save yourself the money and get into the habit of turning them on? Problem solved.

Uh, because that's too easy!

I lived in Europe for 5 years (law) and now NC (has been the law since I moved here). I don't even think about it now. Really no different than remembering to put on your seat belt.
