Default Fixed it

Even though it is a little redundent, I wanted to let everyone know that I ran into the same problem. I got in my 2005 150 Lariat last night and the entire A/C display was blinking and not wokring. I unsnapped the panel just now and unplugged the power to the A/C. I plugged them back in and now everything is working great. Thank you for the solution, I have a feeling you saved me a lot of money and definitely some time at a shop.

Hope everyone is able to fix the problem as easily as I was with your help.

Hugely valuable information here. Need to get the word out.

I have had the Climate Control issue, as described above, happen twice on my 2005 Lariat. The first time it was under warranty and the dealer took care of it. (did they bill Ford?)

The second time, I brought the truck to the local dealer and asked them to provide an estimate on repair. I received a call back from the service writer indicating that the entire unit need to be replaced. The estimate was $606. I told him, do NOT replace or repair.

I jumped online to see parts pricing and came across this post. I called the service writer back and told him to have the mechanic unplug and then replug the control unit.

i went to pick up the truck from the dealer and the climate control worked.

I spoke with the service writer and he admitted that the plugging and unplugging works about 90% of the time.

Saved $606!

Thanks

Fixed!

04 Screw Lariat climate control unit flashing! I unplugged the control head to do that
on the back of the Plug you will find a grey lever to release the lever right above the lever it has a black tab. depress the black tab and push up on the grey lever this will unplug the plug do the same on the other plug.
I did this with the power turned off plugged them back in powered up no change.
I tried it with power on! and it reset the control unit. It all works now.

I found that removal of the plastic wood grain bezel was easily removed by starting at the top with a flat screw driver rather than the bottom for me.

It seemed like by unplugging and plugging back in it reseted itself or something but this is the 3rd day and every thing seems to be fine!!!!

Try it Good luck, and let me know the results.

I have registered here just to say "Thank You!!" for this information/advice. Last night, the climate control unit in my '06 F150 King Ranch SC just started flashing on and off for no reason. At first I thought it was a relay, but swapping them out did not help. It was such an annoying problem that I was prepared to take it to the dealer the this morning (plus, it's currently 31° here and I need my heater/defrost!), which my wife was NOT happy about. So I turned to Google, which is how I found this thread....

Anyhow, following the advice above and the tutorial in this link (which I also found via this site), I was able to pop off the cover/bezel, unplug the controls, and plug them back in. That did the trick!!

So a huge thank you to you folks... you easily saved me $100 -- if not several hundred! Who would have figured it would be something that ridiculous?! But I KNOW the dealer would have charged me at least $75 just to plug it in for diagnosis, and who-knows-what for "repair" (needed or not)!

Default 2nd Climate control head in 6 years

I have a 2004 Lariat & this unit was replaced under warranty in 2007. It just went out again in 2011. When I turn it on, it immediately shuts right back off again. I took it to the dealer & they want $628 for the diaognostic of it & the replacement unit saying it was a bad connection & needs a new control had but can't tell me for sure if that will fixx the issue. I called Ford to let the engineers know I'm very unhappy wiht a one year warraanty on these units. This sucks! I told them if it happens again and my dealer can't make good on it, I'm leaving Ford. I love my truck but I think this is totally wrong. I'm afraid to go hunting with out heat right now. What's with this? Is it a wiring thing or a head thing or a mounting thing or what? Is it possible to blow this unit out somehow if you dont' turn it off before you shut off the truck so when you turn it back on you end up turning the unit on at the same time & sending it a voltage spike that shuts it off or something?
IS this a common issue? Dealer doesn't know anything - but what I did find out was that this unit got a revided part - original one was 4L32-19980-AC & the new on is 4L32-19980-AD for some reason. Seems to me Ford knows something they arent' revealing.

Default grats

2 days ago climate control panel began blinking...30 minutes on this formum and a little elbow grease fixed the problem.
Anyone know how to fix my daughter's 2004 Saturn Ion ignition problem. I've spent 6 hours on Edmunds site with 10,000 posts and little progress. Pity the poor fool stuck with Obama motors

Thank you all for posting the answer to this problem. I just got my A/C running in about 5 min using this trick. Question: What is the next step? Will this problem just keep occurring until I replace the EATC display?
