Cargo Trailer Inside lights
Didn't know where to post this, so trying here. Prob a dozen posts about this already.
So i recently bought a enclosed trailer and I cant get the inside lights to work. I bought new leds lights to go in the trailer but when i hook up to the truck NOTHING. Over the weekend i hooked a RV battery directly to the 7way trailer junction box (neg on black and pos on white and boom they work)
After some digging around i found out the my 2019 F150 don't have 12v coming out of the 7way plug in ,which is stupid.
Anyway, im wondering if there is some way (easy) to hook up the inside lights and make them work??? Without having to install relays and running wires in the truck?
I am thinking 1 of 2 things
1)can i tie into my side marker lights, then run it to a switch, then to the lights??
2) or if i switch the wires. Take the inside wire light wires and put them on the same post as the side marker lights????
I know ill have the have the lights on the truck to the on position but for the amount of time they will be used it wont be much.
Just want some light in the trailer.

Search up the threads that explain what it takes to get the truck to activate the trailer battery charge relay - that's part of the reason the lights don't work. But the main reason is: there's no battery. Put one on the trailer permanently, the way you did temporarily, for the truck to charge and to power those lights (whether the truck is connected or not). It doesn't have to be big - almost any 12V SLA (wheelchair/UPS/exit light/jumper box) battery will do.

I have a battery for my electric brakes, can I use that, neg to neg and pos to pos?
Make sure all the fuses are in the fuse box in the truck.
Just so you know there are still only 7 wires in the plug and the one that is for the Trailer brake battery should be the one for the trailer interior lights and it is only on with the vehicle key on in a Ford.

I have the same deal with my new enclosed trailer.
My 2013 came with the link/fuse/relay in the glove box.
My 2018 doesn't...I'm waiting on my service advisor to get back to me...on what I have to do.
From what I gather its just a relay that has to be inserted into a slot under the hood...
A lot easier than trying to re-wire something.
Not sure why Ford does this!!?

Bought a new enclosed trailer. Plugged it in to the 7 pin expecting the inside lights to work immediately. No dice.
Answer: Hook up your truck to your trailer with the truck NOT running. Start your truck and hold your foot on the brake pedal for 3 seconds, you will see a "trailer connected" message in your dash. You should now have power to the pin that will supply the 12 vdc to allow you to turn on your interior trailer lights and charge your breakaway battery....if you have one.
