Temp Gague
Just bought a 1986 f150 efi Lariat xlt. The temp gague does not work. I am trying to find the sending unit to replace but so far have not been sucessful does anyone know where the sending unit is located in a 302 efi. and does it have more than one sender for the computer. Thanks for any help.

BUT
First verify that the fuel and oil pressure gauges are working properly. All 3 gauges are powered by the Instrument Voltage Regulator. If all 3 are not working then look at the IVR first.

Follow the upper radiator hose. It is just above the thermostat and the small bypass hose.

Yes, there's a sensor for the computer and a sender for the gauge. Sensor is usually near the thermostat like Chris said. I have only done the sender on a straight 6 though so I'm not help.

temp sender 85' 302 efi
located just to the right of the distributor cap, top of engine, usually hiding below the wiring harness running towards the firewall.
To test gauge, pull wire off sender and ground it (using alligator clip etc.) turn ignition to on and gauge should go full scale, if the gauge is good. No movement, check wiring, sender may not necessarily be good.
