HELP..No Spark
Hi guys..
started my 84 F150..300cu straight 6..ran great during major rain storm..then just died..Replaced..
Ignition Control Module..twice
Pickup Coil.inside dist
Primary Coil
Cap
Rotor
Wires
Plugs
Got 12V at coil
Got 3.6Vac on Spout
At my witts end
ANY Suggestions..

Then just died and hasn't started since? Did it die like turning off a switch or like losing fuel? When you crank it what happens? Obviously you have fuel right? All you need is fuel, spark, and air. It's in park when you crank her over? Is it manual or auto?
Wait I see you said you have no spark at all? Hmmm. I'm not familiar with the 84 model, but I would think it uses the same ignition switch and cylinder design as 85. If that is so, check the ignition switch and cylinder.

Then just died and hasn't started since? Did it die like turning off a switch or like losing fuel? When you crank it what happens? Obviously you have fuel right? All you need is fuel, spark, and air. It's in park when you crank her over? Is it manual or auto?

Cranks fine, tried spaying starting fluid into carb while cranking to eliminate possible fuel problem..
4-speed..
It did start one time after changing ignition control module mounted on the side of distributor...Didn't feel quite rite when re-installing 3 spade lug connection. Pulled distributor and found thar the pickup coil in the dist was terribly corroded and breaking apart..BINGO I found it...NOT installed new pickup coil..no luck..changed ignition control module...again..no luck..put old pickup coil back in ..Nothing...

When it quits like that it is telltale of a pickup or the like, but definitely ignition electrical judging by that alone. Fuel would have sputtered dead or anything else for the most part.
What about starter solenoid, ignition switch, and cylinder is all I got. What happens when you bridge the solenoid with a screwdriver? I assume you put the distributor back exactly as you removed it? Stupid question battery has 12v right? Solid connection on battery cables? No corrosion? I would say bridge the solenoid and see what happens.
Crap just thought of something. Check the ground wires good. You will get a load of nothin on startup if you have a ground not grounded if that makes sense. Happened to me on an 89. On of the ground from the negative battery terminal was broken in the CONNECTOR and I removed it and reconnected with a wire nut and BAM. Check all grounds.

As I said, it cranks over fine..not sure why you would have me check the solenoid??

I was very careful to first get #1 cylinder to TDC by removing Dist cap and cranking motor until rotor pointed to #1..also lined up timing marks I painted on scale/Harmonic balancer long ago..This makes it very easy to pull/re-install distributor...
Plus all the components/checks I have done listed in original post above..

Sorry I missed the part where it cranks. God this is a tough one. I will think on it.
I've been thinking about this one man, but tell me what have you done since you posted. I thought, oh wait sounds like the coil, but you replaced that. I just did a pickup coil myself. Not fun and I am still waiting to have a new gear pressed in after breaking the one I pulled. Anything new to report?

There are only 4 main components to make spark..Pickup coil, Ignition Control Module ( distributor mounted ), Coil, and main Powertrain Control Module.( very expensive ). Not to mention cap, rotor, wires, plugs..all new
Also interconnecting wires and connectors..all seem good..Got 12v at the Coil..Checked "SPOUT" signal between Ignition Contol Module and Powertrain Control Module..3.6Vac..should be 3-8.5Vac..probably would be higher if truck was running???
....
The last thing I have done but not reported..
Exchanged NEW..Pickup coil and Ignition Control Module from Auto-Zone.
GOT to be one of these HIGH Failure parts..Have not tried them yet..
Will report when I get them in....
If this doesn't do it...I'm still stumpted!!!!!!!!!

Mine is held in with a Roll-Pin. I use a punch to push it out, then cleaned up the shaft first time..the gear comes rite off..I think they changed it after '84 to the press fit you must have..Lucky-me...
