Default Help 1982 f150

My son has a 1982 ford f150 and the fuel pump keeps being knocked out. We have replaced it 3 different times just this week. We first put on a new manual pump and then 2 different types of electric pumps and each time the truck w ill start and run while idling but when it is driven down the road (about mile) the pump stops pumping fuel and the truck dies. We can still hear the pump runnning but no fuel is making it to the carburetor does anyone have any suggestions?
we have dropped the tank and replaced the fuel line. There wasn't any objects or sludge in the tank.

Please help desperate Mom of frustrated teenage son.

I can't help but I will bump your lonely thread to the top so that maybe someone will see it. Maybe try to find a good local mech to take a look at it. Good luck

How many gas tanks? 1 or 2?

(Moved Thread to Pre 87' section for responses more specific to that year.)

Have you changed the fuel filter? It's in the canister on the frame.

Thanks the truck has just one tank and we have replaced the fuel filter, all the gas lines and the pump and it will still run at an idle but if you drive it about a mile or so it stalls out and then won't restart because the fuel pump stops pumping fuel thru the line but if it sits for about 30 minutes to an hour it will start right back up and run at an idle. We are on limited funds so haven't been able to local mechanic. Hoping someone can help us here.

Tested to make sure the pump is pumping at capacity? Maybe not getting the proper amount of power?

And / Or The issue is after it pumps the fuel up to the motor. and when demand is low (idling) no issue. Once it demands more its not able to stay pressurized. There could be allot of things going on if you here the pump working but arent staying running.

If you have tried 3 pumps now and you can hear it running why do you think it has to be the fuel pump?

I don't think fuel delivery is your problem.

^ I agree. I think its something after the Fuel lines. Hard to tell without more information though.

Maybe distributer cap issues? but i would think you would see that at idle / wouldnt start.

What engine do you have OP?

Since you seem to have pretty much covered the fuel delivery system i would start with checking out air intake and spark. Try reseting your timing too.
