Default 82 running issues

I've got a 82 f150 302 and am having some issues. i've put on new plugs, wires, fuel filter and just did the thermostat last night. after doin the therm the truck will no longer start. I did notice a plug coming off the ignition coil that isn't connected to anything and don't know if it is supossed to go somewhere. at first it acted like it wasn't getting enough fuel as it would try harder to start if I pumped the gas. before doin the therm, the truck ran kinda rough and would die in gear. possibly might need to rebuild the carb, truck was also sitting for about 2 years before I got it and only driven about 10k miles in the past 10 years.

Maybe an 'airlock' after replacing the filter. Try bleeding the air out the gas line.
Try using starting fluid. If it starts with SF then dies out and will not run then there is a problem with the fuel and/or fuel system. Bad gas, water in gas, bad fuel pump, Carb. needs cleaning etc.
Was the old filter plugged?

it was clogged some, but not completely blocked. I did add heet to both tanks and the front tank is full with fresh fuel. I just tried pouring some gas into the carb and wouldn't fire at all so i'm assuming no spark at the moment

Look at Advance auto for the Holley carb to replace the motorcraft model you have. You will be pleased with the difference.
I was on my 302 in Early Bronco.
