Tailgate Release Button Not working. Thoughts needed!
So my tailgate release button on my 2021 XLT crew does not work. The button on the dash works and the button on the remotes work. Since those worked I did try replacing the button. I did that and it still does not work. I have checked forscan for any DTC's and there are none. I do not see any noticeable damage to the wires running from the tailgate. Any thoughts on what it could be? I bought this used and it didn't work when I got it. Any thing else to check in forscan that maybe got disabled? Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.
Best would be to buy/find a wiring diagram for the system and troubleshoot from there. I am unsure how the button interfaces with the lock, so I can't provide much information. Given you replaced the button, maybe start with a multimeter and check continuity when you push it vs not and make sure it makes connection. Bad new parts aren't common but possible.
I've never had one of the newer tailgates apart, how hard would it be to check the new button with a meter to make sure it's good. As above new parts bad is unusual but it would be worth checking . You've eliminated all the other easy stuff ( wiring, solenoid ect.) cause it works from other controls. If it's not the button or a connection to it you're into the computer. Jim
I can’t think it would be an issue, but check that all of your fuses are properly seated. When I first got my 21, there were a numbers fuses not fully seated in the fuse box under the hood. One would think that if it works two other ways it wouldn’t be the fuse, but is it a FORD.
My Thoughts are with you during this difficult time.....
Ok all kidding aside, though I do not have one of these tailgates. I would actually start with the solenoid. My experience with those things is they are the first to go bad.
