Default Replacement Battery

I have a 2021 STX with the 5.0 engine. I have a dash camera setup and when I turn off the ignition it goes to parking mode. This parking mode is set to shut off when the battery reaches a certain low level. This keeps from draining the battery too low.

I noticed that my camera only stays on about one and a half hours with a very low draw. I feel like my battery does not have that much reserve capacity considering the draw the truck has on it with all of the computerized items.

Note that I have disabled my auto stop-start feature so I don't have that wearing on my truck restarting constantly. Also most of my driving is just very short trips of a couple of miles with not much highway driving. That does not help keep my battery charged.

I don't need a new battery yet but I'm just looking ahead to when I do get a new battery to see if I can up the capacity. I am eyeballing and h8 size 49. This apparently is one size up from what came on my truck (Pic attached).

It looks like my battery tray is large enough to accommodate the longer battery. Have any of you guys up size your battery from stock?

Stock battery.

I think you need to check the voltage on your battery when the camera shuts off.

Curious how the camera knows you have shut the truck off?

Curious where you made the power connection(s) for the camera? My 2018 keeps auxiliary power on for some time after I turn the truck off. At least 30 minutes. Maybe that is what is happening to you, that the truck is turning off the power not the camera?

H8 will fit in the battery slot. Its what is used in the 3.0 diesels. H7 is also used on some models. You'll want an AGM battery, as the flooded cell batteries are not as effective for short bursts of power needed for auto stop-start and other high-current low-duration power draws.

Odyssey batteries makes a decent H8 battery that may be suitable. I would avoid Optima if possible. Some house brands may have a good AGM H8.

The blackvue 750x camera senses that the vehicle has not moved after a couple of minutes and goes into parking mode. Even with the engine on. It then has settings you can choose of when to shut the camera off. I have mine at 12.5 volts now.

Saw this battery at Sam's last week. I haven't read any reviews on it yet. Good price and good cranking amps and reserve.

To the OP;
The normal resting voltage after shut down is in the 12.3 range.
You have your Insturment set to high.
The shut down voltage at the power points last 30 minutes with the Ignition in the ACC postion.
In the Off position 120 minutes, then shut down occurrs.
Those two times do not mean the rest of the truck is drawing power to any extent. There would be no reason for that to be the case.
IMO, your concern is not warrented with just a Camera that the system will shut down automatically by design to prevent battery drain and a no start condition.
The power timing is to give you some use in two time steps without causing you a probem.
There is some timing adjustment in program for times, within those limits.
I have radio equipment I can leave on and have the truck auto control the shutdown time if I don't get back within the 120 minute time limit.
It's a good function to have.
As for your camera, I have no idea what it does or how it is controlled within.
Good luck.

Other places have stated that is a very good value and also a good battery choice.

My position is that there are 3 major manufacturers of automotive starter batteries in North America. Every one will make junk for brands who will only pay for junk so it doesn't make a wit of difference who made the battery. Shop for specs. Shop for warranty. 3 years 100% replacement is better than 4 years pro-rated. Let the brand put their money where their mouth is with a warranty.

As for the O.P., I am not convinced there is anything wrong with your battery. I'm not convinced you know why your camera is turning off. You didn't answer my question as to where the camera power was connected. I think likely to be on one of the 30 minute or 120 minute circuits the truck turns off on its own.
