For what it's worth, I'm not seeing the same issues I was seeing on forums and Facebook groups for the 18-20 f150s.

Throughout the past 30 plus years, Ford comes out, struggles for the first few years here and there, and then irons things out after around 4 to 5 years. By this time in 2018, we were already seeing oil consumption issues with the 5.0 Gen 3 Coyote. Not seeing any issues for the latest iteration of the 5.0. And it's been out since 2021 trucks. Not seeing as many complaints on the EcoBoost either. Nor the 10 speed transmission. And I'm in F-150 groups, and super duty groups. So I see a lot of different posts. They've certainly decreased in quantity of powertrains related issues.

The issues that I have seen are typically involving those power boost f-150s. As well as the max tow rear end. And then obviously the electronic gizmos that so many get on the higher trims. I'm going with an XL STX so I likely won't be dealing with any of that nonsense personally.

Planning to buy myself new this next refresh, and I feel much more confident after the few years this latest generation has been out.

And something I always tell myself, is I have a 2004 F-150 with a 5.4 3 valve. Will start my 16th year with it next year. To most people those engines are disasters. A lot of it comes down to the maintenance regimen and being aware of any issues. Just my view anyways.

i'd use the mpg metric as a measure of how healthy the engine is.. i have a 502A with the 2.7.. i had a '16 that could touch 24 mpg once in while. on quality - so far this'22 has been without an issue. my 16 was in the dealers for oil leaks and coolant leaks pretty solid over the whole time of ownership. This 27 mpg run was about 90 miles out to my dad's and back. it is not sustainable for any long run. Make sure you get LED headlights.. it is the most vital upgrade there is.. i think it is more important than what engine you get even... imo. Mine was built 11 Jan 22. Only real defect is a little bit of light paint up under the right cowl. and.. the little foam pieces behind the fender vents.. left side was not in the right position...

My 22 King Ranch has had multiple issues over the 13 months I have owned it. The worst is a drivetrain shudder. My dealer replaced the torque converter and over multiple following visits, finally determined the transmission has an issue. Ford says the shudder is a normal characteristic of an F150 and refused to allow the dealer to replace the transmission.

I have also had issues with the screen going blank, the truck completely draining the battery in less than 24 hours, and multiple false warnings that the tailgate is down. Recently, the tailgate dropped on its own damaging the paint on the tailgate.

As a result of these repeated problems, my F150 will soon belong to someone else and I’ll be driving another brand.

Love to hear it!

AFE bias adjusted, so this is accurate to within .1-.2 mpg. I can see 30 being possible with right conditions. This was en route to GA from IN, ended up at 25.2 mpg over 837 miles. I’ll take it.

I am considering a 2023 XLT302A or Lariat 501/502. I’ve been researching on a few forums and it seems there are quite a bit of issues with the 2021+ models, I understand the Covid impact.

With that said are there any current issues that are ongoing that would deter you from buying a new F150? I would hate to drop 70k on a new truck and have my CEL pop on the first month.

I don’t remember this amount of issues with the 2019 Models. Thanks.
If you have (have had) trucks with "zero" issues why the heck do you want to get rid of it???
I wouldn't buy a new truck for a number of reasons...price, value, quality and the ridiculous credits Ford gives for missing options!!! ($50 credit for no heated steering wheel) lmfao

My complaints so far have been almost entirely assembly / build quality issues. Attention to detail stuff that really should never have left the factory (un-tightened clamp on air intake, broken active grill shutter, quarter-size paint bubble on surface of bed, other specks of dirt or objects under the paint, overfilled coolant reservoir)

I do worry about COVID era cars from everyone... but Ford seems to have had more problems than almost any other car company from what I can gather.

I am not sure who I'd really trust more and even then, you often have to give something up to get something. Was the last gen Tundra really reliable? Yeah. Did it have an awesome V8? Yup. It also had horrendous ride and horrendous fuel economy. The new one seems to be missing the reliability scores and (personal, I know) it is horrendously ugly. The current RAM is Consumer Reports only recommended full size truck. It scores 3/5 for reliability (so average) and you give up MPG and payload when choosing that one. Also no dead pedal (my biggest peeve on the RAM, personally)

I've mentioned a few times here but for me, I PROBABLY would have gotten the RAM if I didn't need the Pro Power OnBoard. So yeah, Ford wins on the most capable, most innovative truck spectrum, and has the best range of engine choices for every consumer while it seems (at least during covid??) to be suffering on the quality front.

With cars I feel like you can always just tell someone "Get a Camry" and it will work for 90% of people because all they need is to get to/from work and get kids around, and maybe fill the trunk with luggage for a road trip, gets solid fuel economy, and probably won't break much. Unfortunately with trucks, so many different needs and priorities where the different brands shine or do not shine, its hard to really know where you need to go to find the best truck for you.
