Powertrain malfunction
Yeah, mine was a stuck wastegate. Don’t clear the code before you bring it to the dealer. I cleared mine and they couldn’t pull it after the fact. Despite me taking a picture of the reader connected to the truck with the code on it, and the fact that it shows up in the My Ford app, they wouldn’t work on it unless they pull the code themselves.

No. Both times it happened, I was able to pull the code (same code each time), but I was traveling, so I couldn’t go right to a dealer. I ended up having to clear the codes and then turning the truck off for like 15 min which made everything go back to normal. I did take it in once and they said they needed to the code to be present, and to leave the code next time. Waiting for it to throw the code again so I can bring it in.
Hi there. This powertrain concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your F-150. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.
Check the voltage on your battery and alternator, could be something as dumb as that. My ABS light came on intermittently for 4-5 weeks before the alternator in my escape finally failed. Didn't realize it, car ran on battery only for a couple of hours and died while driving. Right before it died, dashboard warning lights etc went absolutely haywire. New alternator and recharged battery, never a problem again. And that was in a 2003. With all the electronics in cars now, I would not be surprised if it was just a low/weak battery. The way that computers talk and send signals from sensors and such is all through voltage across components, if something is outside the expected range it can cause problems. Check that and report it when you bring the truck in. It can only help.
Update... so per dealer they said its the wastegate actuator... parts will take about 2 - 3 weeks.. Dealer saud i can keep driving till part comes in anf they will replace it. Think its safe to drive like that and not mess something else up?
All the turbo does is jam your engine with more stuff to burn so it behaves like a much bigger engine power wise. Engines with turbos and superchargers need to be built up to handle all that extra stress and not blow up. The wastegate blows off excess boost from the turbo so it can't blow up your engine by overfeeding it. As long as it doesn't get stuck closed, you're probably safer now than you were before since your engine is under less internal stress, in essence. Your truck will be a lot less powerful though till it gets fixed. When your wastegate gets stuck closed... that's when you should be afraid.
fun fact, 14.7 PSI is standard temperature and pressure, so depending on what area of the country you live in, your turbos @10lbs of boost make your 2.7L engine behave like a 4.54L engine, power wise.
