PowerBoost is slow on making a turn at intersection
Hey guys,
This was bugging me for a while. Every time I need to make a turn at intersection (for example, left turn) from a complete stop, the truck is very slow. Like 20 year old Corolla slow. And flooring the gas does not help to make a quick turn, feels like something is holding the truck(by its sensitive parts) back.
The only remedy to some degree is to be in Sports mode, but you really do not want to me in the Sports mode in residential area; all I want to do, is to make the left turn at intersection quick - that's all!
The same truck on the straight line goes like hell. So is it vehicle stability control being too aggressive (again, we are talking about making a turn from a complete stop - so it is not like it is going to roll over or something!), or it is just my truck?

Another brand of car had this same commentary. The anti skid systems seeing the difference between the amount of lead in the driver's right foot, the difference between the direction of travel requested by the driver via steering inputs and the rear wheels, holds back engine power until its safer.
I have had this same issue with a '21 5.0, typically turning from a stop and trying to get out onto a street with some speed. There will be a solid second or two sometimes where the throttle is completely unresponsive. Like you realized, sports mode is fine.
thank you guys... so I have not lost my marbles completely yet...(wife disagree with that statement though)
I feel like this is a safety feature gone wrong.
From one side, if you are making a turn at intersection, you are typically waiting for the safe gap between the incoming traffic to make that turn. And you are using your judgment to predict if you can make it or not. But if the truck simply cuts the power during the turn, that safe window while you can make the turn, becomes very small - as you need much more time than you think. Add red light cameras that are multiplying like rabbits, and this is becoming very frustaiting.
I am guessing Ford does not want us to fishtail, since the truck does not know when it start moving from the full stop, if there is ice/slippery along the trajectory of the turn. Ehh...
So I guess moving forward, I have to unnecessary switch to Sports mode while approaching the intersection, just to make a safe turn. Brilliant, what can I say.

I don’t think it’s traction control related. When I get no throttle response in these situations the tc light isn’t flashing. If I’m completely stopped and give it a lot of throttle it’ll pull well and let me spin the tires even with traction control on. It’s something with the pcm logic when you do something unexpected, it happens a lot to me rolling out of a gas station into a street where I’m modulating the gas and brake and not just heavy throttle. I always thought it was related to cylinder deactivation but now that someone with a powerboost experiences it it must not be. I have seen multiple posts with this issue though, most people say to get a pedal commander. I’d rather get a tune

If not please disregard.
no… I’m not like trying to brake stands. I mean I may be coasting very slowly watching traffic and hit the brake then hit the gas and in situations like that it gets “confused” as opposed to just taking off with heavy throttle from a stop
