Most also have an exterior button to open the tailgate...

Key in your entry code into your door keypad and immediately press 5... Boom! Tailgate opens!

That’s good to know and is much better than what I’d seen so far. Still think you’d be better served with a button on the side of the tailgate that’s covered when it’s closed. Or a foot activated version like the SUVs. Using the key fob is counterintuitive to me on a “keyless” truck.

but then some genius would think they they have to hold it to close it and close their fingers into the tailgate and then sue, you know it would happen...

Yes, confirmed at a recent test drive.

Of course it would. But you can never 100% out engineer stupid. You put a warning sticker next to it and in the manual and move on. No different than someone rolling their finger up in a window, shoving their hand in the engine compartment with it running, remote starting their car in a closed garage, shutting their hand in a rear lift gate, etc.

Makes sense, our edge has 5 ways to open the hatch.

it's on the power deploying steps now. I don't know about the tailgate, you may have to raise your foot a little to high to activate it. And with the tailgate down you would have to stretch your leg out to activate it considering it would be on the bumper.
