Brand new Lariat in Space White discovered a paint defect on the bed passenger side. pointed it out to the dealer, dealer said it was a defect and that they would repaint the bed for me. I told him I would think about it. I know once it’s painted it will never be the same.
A few weeks later drying off the truck after a wash discovered two other defects.
I know they are pumping theses trucks out at a lightning speed but where is the quality control….
After spending almost 70k I expected better to tell you the truth. The thing that I’m disappointed with the most is these issues were caused during production not during delivery or by the dealer.
id get it fixed, proper body shop you never will be able to tell. I've had 2 trucks that have had paint defects repaired under warranty, got them fixed and moved on
Whatever the price, at the end of the day its an F150. Not a Porsche. Hell even Porsche's have quite a few paint defects. I've fixed quite a few over my 22+ years
I had a body or paint defect also. Same area but mine was vertical. Centered right above the wheel well. It was a vertical line about 6 inches long and about an 1/8 inch wide. It was only visible while looking at it from an angle. It felt smooth when rubbing your hand over the area so couldnt tell if it was a body or paint defect. Dealer repaired it under warranty and got the windshield recall work all done at the same time. Looks perfect now.
A paint thickness gauge will detect any repaint. Resale value will be affected accordingly.
Not sure where you buy and sell vehicles but I have never seen anyone take a paint thickness gage to any vehicle I have ever gotten rid of. Most dealers will run the car fax and unless it’s a reported incident, they’ll never know.

On top of that, carfax buys info. If the insurance company isn't selling it. It's not in there either.
Unless it's a really shoddy repair. Repaints rarely affect value
Have two spots with issues. One I'm not too concerned about, but the other is where the two tone (stone gray below the rapid red). Has some red paint smeared in it. Not sure the order they paint, but looks like the red is on top. Dealer is going to fix. Agree, I paid almost $60k, but again it is a truck and I expect a scratch or two in the future.
