Funny I know lots of folks with actual sports vehicles... that can't handle them when stock power is applied in a liberal manner... the size of the brakes has nothing to do with the skill set of the nut between the seat & steering wheel.
You can be one of those pretend parts changers that swears "drilled & slotted rotors" increased their braking power on the street... but if you knew anything about stock systems you know those rotors are missing rotor surface.
Also your methodology won't work in say a spec racing class... like a miata spec or production spec class racing.

Nope, a seldom traveled road next to a regional airport 0-60 mph, a mile plus straight piece. Just tickled 3rd gear at the end. Mexico is a long way from WI.KM

I usually start with an off-the-shelf tune. I am currently using SCT's Livewire (device needed to apply the tune to the vehicle) which came with a few tunes. Just plug and apply and you'll notice a nice improvement.
I've done this with many past cars, foreign and domestic.
