Talk to me about locking lug nuts..I have them only because They were on the truck when I bought it....They are a PITA for me..Remembering to get the tool back after rotations is reason enough for me to hate them...Also I'm somewhat cconcerned about these lug nuts swelling as they age..Shoulld I replace these crummy lug nuts with good ones and should I pitch the locking lug nuts when I do?
Am I the only one here that would rather risk losing my wheels to thieves than deal with these nuts? And tell me how much of a determent are they really?
I do not have locking lugs (never have on any vehicle). However, I just bought a 2023 with nice rims and tires, and have seriously considering getting some for that truck. Keeping track of the key I agree, is an extra headache. I priced some at my local Ford dealer. I didn't like the price and decided to wait, but the guy let me take a picture of the packaging and part numbers. Still trying to decide..... TB
If I had to choose I wouldn’t want wheel locks but if the truck come with them, I can also bare with it. Wouldn’t want to spend money on something unless it really bothers me.
They aren't going to do chit if someone really wants your wheels. Project Farm reviewed several and most were very easy to remove. Here is the video. It'll slow someone down a bit and they may just decide to walk away instead but if they really want them, they gonna get 'em unfortunately,..... feckin' thieves.
I lost the key to the OEM locking lugs for my Corvette. It took me about 2 minutes to figure out what size socket to tap onto the lock with a hammer so I could take them off. Locking lugs will only slightly slow down an unprepared amateur, so they are totally worthless for a pro thief. I bought a complete set of replacement black locking lugnuts for less than the cost of 4 OEMs.
Yep. There was one type of lugs in the Project Farm video that actually seem worth the price. I'll let y'all check out Todd's video for the info on it.
