Default Issue with Ford Sync and Texting

I am having an intermittent issue with inbound Text messages to my Ford Sync.
At times it will indicate an inbound Text message from (Whomever) and ask if I want to listen to it, if I said Yes, it would read it to me and ask if I wanted to reply. Most recently it would announce the message and read it without asking. Then I can choose to reply or do nothing.
iPhone16 iOS18.7.

On 09/05/25 I contacted Ford Connectivity Helpline (833) 389-0848.
They indicated a BCM Error and opened Case CXH-05469114 and instructed me to take it in for service at a Ford Dealership.

On 09/23/25 My truck was in for Service at a local Ford Dealership (Lebanon Ford).
I included the Case Number (CXH-05469114) when I made the appointment.
They found nothing wrong, no Errors, all Software up to date. This cost me $177.74.
They said they tested it and it worked fine - I did not see them test it.

0n 09/24/25 I decided to test texting again.
Inbound still doesn't work, although the Sound Volume lowered momentarily on the "radio".
Then I tried to send a message using Sync (and the Voice Button on the Steering Wheel) - worked like it should, created the message, read it back, asked if I wanted to send it, I replied Send It. the Text was sent to my iPhone. I do not have Alexa (I think that what it's called)
Contacted the Ford Connectivity Help Line (833) 389-0848 again, they still see a Communication Error in the BCM, and that my Truck has not performed an over the Air Update since 07/20/25.
I did put the Dash in "Engineering Mode" there was a screen that had "DTC", but nothing listed.
I have FORScan - no DTC errors detected.

I don't know who/what to trust, Ford Connectivity, Lebanon Ford Service Department, FORScan, or Engineering Mode in the truck Dash. I just want my texting to work reliably.

The BCM has nothing to do with the issue; that is all managed by the APIM. What they probably saw when you called Ford is an old stored code. What Sync version is your truck on in the "about sync" screen in your settings/general section?

That is the latest and greatest Sync version out there. I am still waiting on Ford to release it to me; I'm on 24127. It is isn't working right, updating the software is not going to help in your case. Not sure what's going on.

Thak You for checking.

Very frustrated at Ford, they see an issue, open a case and tell me to take it to the dealer for service.
Daler can't find anything wrong with it, verified all soft/firmware versions are up to date.
Still doesn't work, called Ford again, they insist there is a problem, says my vehicle hasn't performed an over the air update since June 20th.
You (and the Dealer) indicate my SYNC is up to date........

Very frustrated at Ford

It could very well be an issue with IOS and Carplay as well.

I feel the same way as you. My Ford Pass suddenly quit working over a month ago and nothing associated with Sync 4 is working. I did all the measures Ford list on the website as well as those in the vehicle. I took it to the dealership and I was informed they didn't do that kind of work. I called the Ford customer service number given to me and I was told after over an hour that my Sync 4 isn't up to date. I'm showing sync version 23159_Product Revision 915. I was given the version number of 24545 as there latest build. The trouble is, I haven't been able to update the software. I jumped through the hoops I was told to do from Ford and still can't update. Don't know why I can't just download the software to a jump drive and install it myself or have Ford update over the air. This is the pits. I just got rid of my 2010 Explorer Sport Tract with Sync (original) and it worked. Way to go Ford to screw it up and no one can fix it!!!

Your issue is different than the OP. You need to pull the codes your truck is reporting to get to the root of the problem.

Also, the latest Sync is 25094. 24545 does not exist so whoever told you that is clueless. The way you decode the Sync version is the first two digits is the year and the last three is the day of the year. So, Sync 23159 would be a release on the 159th day of 2023.

The numbers I was given as the latest version came from Ford Connectivity. I just called them again and was told from what he saw that I had a trigger created on TMC which indicated to him that there was an issue with the modem. The case # I have is CHX-05617499-X6Z2K5. He then told me that the dealership was the only people to check the modem and repair the issue. I assume that means replace the modem. How difficult is it to replace the modem and is it very expensive and time consuming?

The people that answer the phone when you call Ford are clueless. You can take their word for it if you want. I can tell you with 100% confidence that Sync 24545 does not exist and the latest available is 25094.

Replacing the TCU is actually very easy in terms of accessing it, removing the old one and putting the new one in. You can get a used TCU on ebay for cheap (it is important the part number matches the one in your truck exactly). The issue will be programming it. You would need FDRS for that and the cable to use FDRS costs $600.
