I agree with you 100%. I also believe you about the number given was bogus.

While it probably be best for Ford to do especially with programming, are the Ford dealerships the only ones who can do that?

 

FDRS is Ford Diagnostic & Repair System and that is what dealer techs use for module programming amongst other things. You don't need then to do it, but you need the tools to do it yourself.

That's assuming they are correct and the TCU is bad. It could also be a bad GWM. The simplest thing would be go to check the TCU behind the rear seat and make sure the plugs are seated properly.

 

I made a trip to another dealership yesterday and the technician agreed with you about the support from Ford isn't good. He checked everything out, made a phone call while he was in the truck and running and between him and the person on the other end of the call, diagnosed the issue as not a bad TCU but needed to be totally whipped and reinstalled to get it to accept the updates. I am now waiting on a date to take the truck back to them to reinstall the modem back to normal, hopefully.

I do appreciate all your help and will see what happens when this reinstall takes place.
