Default How are the mirrors?

Just wondering what people's impression of the new standard mirrors are? Especially if you have experience with 2015-20.

I test drove a ‘21 briefly but was not sure. The shape is obviously very different.

I really like the 15-20s. For me a good compromise without having to go to a full tow mirror for 10% of the time towing a large square trailer.

Never cared much for the small Chev GMC mirrors and these 2021s seem similar.

I was looking at a '21 a couple of days ago whilst picking up some stuff at the dealer, noticed the difference in the mirror SHAPE, but...seems the SIZE is actually maybe a bit wider? Should be good for all-purpose use, I would think...but am interested in what '21 owners say.

They are fine. I like the fact they sit lower.

Coming out of an 18 250 I wasn’t sure about the new 150 during the test drive. I suppose I was a little lazy but after driving it for a thousand miles they are fine to me. I have towed boats for years and never had any real tow mirrors until the 250. These are fine for a boat or small trailer. I don’t have much experience with a travel trailer so I can’t intelligently comment on that.

Way back when I bought my 2010 Platinum off the lot, it came with every feature I wanted, except it included the big clunky looking trailer tow mirrors. Back then, they were not electric anything - they fold manually, extend manually, etc. However, over the years I have really come to appreciate the broad view they provide, and when I order my 2021 (soon!) I will definitely opt for Trailer Tow Mirrors.

I have done a test drive with both, and while the smaller mirrors are fine, and, frankly, look much better, I find the view through the larger mirrors to be fantastic, and functional, especially in extremely crowded, busy traffic. I believe they have actually helped me avoid lane change accidents more than once when some goofball came whipping up and around me on a fast freeway.

For the record, I do occasionally tow some pretty big utility trailers, but I would get the larger mirrors even if I never towed again.

Actually, my biggest concern is the loss of gas mileage due to increased wind resistance while dragging those things through the air at 70-80 mph. But then, maybe that's just the aeronautical engineer in me, rebelling against such blatant parasite drag, like flying with the speed brakes out.

The first thing I noticed from my 2015 to this one is that the driver's side mirror doesn't vibrate and I can make out details that I otherwise couldn't before. Back in '15 I test drove a number of vehicles and each one had that high frequency vibration at speed that I ended up just accepting.

Yeah I almost added them to my 2019 order, and in the end wish I had. I actually love the look, even more on half-ton trucks. I went to add them on my '21, but it seems Ford changed it to where you can't get them standalone like I could have with my '19, you need at a minimum the Trailer Tow Package or Max Trailer Tow, if you just do Tow Tech Package like I ordered you can't get them. I know a lot of people order the trailer tow or Max, so not a huge deal for many, but my truck already has 95% of what is in those packages (the Trailer Tow package doesn't add anything that I can see that isn't already on the truck), but adding even just Trailer Tow plus the mirrors added over $1000 to the truck cost, and the only real benefit I was getting was the mirrors. Just didn't seem worth it. I am bummed Ford tied them together now.

The tow mirrors are a standalone option, I added them to my order without having to do anything else. In fact, when you click on the little info pop-out on the build site for the Max Tow package, at the very bottom it actually says “NOTE: Ordering the Max Trailer Tow Package does not include Trailer Tow Mirrors. Trailer Tow Mirrors are a stand alone option and must be ordered separately.”

The stock mirrors seem fine to me in daily commute. But I don't tow and my reference point is 1996 XL reg cab, so take my opinion for what it is worth.

I traded in my 2018 for this 2021. I like the 2021 mirrors, but I have not towed with them yet.
