Default Help - Lost both sets of keys

Hello,

We are in a unique situation. We lost both sets of keyfobs for the 2021 F150. I have a couple of questions.

- Apparently, the laser cut emergency key does not start the car. It only let's you in the car. Is this correct?

- Keyfobs and emergency keys are $285 each plus programming. Does anyone know of a keyfob that you can buy online that works with the 2021s? We were told by dealer that online keyfobs don't work.

- Dealer told us we have to tow the truck in to reprogram keyfob. Ford instructions seem like once you have the keyfob you can do it at home. Does anyone know if this procedure to reprogram keyfob can be done at home?

We are without keys trying to solve this problme without towing the truck and paying almost $1000 for replacements. Any help will be appreciated.

As far as I know, the dealership is correct unfortunately. I hope someone will prove me wrong.

everything you have been told is correct. you can only program them yourself if you have 2 programmed fobs in your possession

You need two working keyfobs to program a new one yourself at home. And the emergency key entry only, not stating the truck.

From what I’ve read, some eBay keys online are just clones of one key, so if you buy 8 keys, they’re all the same and not unique in how they identify with the truck. So that could cause you an issue if you had a made in China cheap key as a spare.

I don’t have my car yet so I can’t test this, but is it possible to start and drive using the Ford app? I seem to recall it at least allows you to start it remotely. Not sure if you can use it to drive.

not on fords as of right now, lincolns you can but not on fords, the physical key still needs to be in your hand

The most important questions is... how on Earth did you lose both keys?

Okay since you asked, I'll tell you my story. Many years ago I just returned from an overseas military assignment and picked up new car at dealership in Phila. Both new keys to new car were clipped together by dealer. Three-year old daughter was crying up a storm at DMV. Gave her the keys. She needed to use restroom. I flushed the toilet when we got in stall - she dropped the keys at the same exact moment. You can figure out the rest - woosh!

How I lost my two sets is beyond me but it happened.

I made two full sets with truck keys, bikes, rv, racks and other locks. Placed the backup set on the rv and the other set with me. Lost the main key when it fell off my keychain. When I went looking for the backups, they were nowhere to be found. Next time, I am placing a key finder on the keys. These things are very expensive. Never in 50 yrs have I lost a key. Now, I lost two sets are about the same time. It happens...
