Default Help

Have a 2023 xlt 150 purchased recently and before I could get a chance to really look at it I owned it long story but what I need help with is it was supposed to have a good towing package but had only a 4 pin flat plug and no hitch I have since installed one and a adapter because I pull all 7 pins. It has plenty of power but not near enough suspension what can I do? Also what are recommendations for how and what brand brake controller? Thanks for your help

Sounds like you need to buy a F250 or F350. 🤷‍♂️

Put your VIN in this Towing Calculator it will tell you what your truck is rated to tow. No guessing involved

I know I should have purchased at least a 250 and had every intention on doing just that but I got sucked in by a salesman and wound up with a 150 it’s got plenty of power just need to know what the options are for beefing up the rear suspension. I have already found the calculator and know what it’s rated for but there is surely a way to do something with the suspension air bags, different leaf springs, coil over shocks any advice is much appreciated

Looks like you have moved on from your old truck.

There is nothing intrinsically bad about the truck you have. Except that it wasn't spec'd with a tow package or a trailer brake controller. You can remedy the latter easily by shelling out more dollars. My bias being the factory style TBC likely to cost upward of $700 after installation and programming. But there are many alternatives. Look at www.etrailer.com for alternatives.

Missing is what you are planning on towing, or its weight fully loaded. Willing to bet you'll need a Weight Distributing Hitch.

just keep in mind, whatever you do to change the truck, the legal limit is still what is on your door sticker. God forbid something happens and you are found to be overweight, you can get in some trouble

In the end you can beef up the rear end, springs, shocks, read diff, brakes etc. The frames on the max tow trucks is different as well. Legally you are stuck with what you have. If the calculator say you can tow 7k with your vin then that is it.

I believe the trucks that do not come with any sort of tow package are rated at 5000 lbs.

It's EXTREMELY hard to believe that a person who intends on towing a lot did absolutely ZERO research when purchasing the vehicle!
I call b.s. on this whole post.
And you just got flustered or whatever by the salesman? Seriously? SERIOUSLY???

Yes sir I have moved on it was a really good truck right up until it wasn’t lol!!!! And you would be right a sentiment too about the weight distribution hitch I have a camper trailer on right now and it really needs it bad I didn’t realize just how weak the suspension is. I checked and the total weight of trailer is 7200 with tongue weight of 700-800 lbs and I’m fighting it the whole time. I have more power than needed almost like nothing is back there but I am getting pushed around by other traffic and has a really bad sway after 45 to 50 mph. My question now is what good if any would putting air bags under it will do. I have an adjustable hitch and have raised upas high as it goes and the trailer is still not quite level. I think that is most of my issue??? Any recommendations on a manufacture?
