I do have the class IV hitch. So that’s what limits the towing max to 7000?

Works great for my 2018. Confirms towing capacity as 6k vs the 5k I thought I had. I guess 53b takes you to 6k, vs no hitch receiver and towing literally from the bumper, which is 5k.

I also have 53b, and a 6500# GVWR. I'm limited (per the VIN decoder) to 6,000 pounds trailer weight. I don't think 53b is a true "tow package". It's just the class IV receiver, and a 7 pin connector.

Believe it or not, there are still (or were in 2018) trucks out there with NO hitch receiver. You can go old school and attach a ball to the bumper, and I believe that limits you to 5,000 pounds trailer weight.

Thank you. Good to know.

All of that is correct.

You have always been able to get F150s without a tow hitch. In 2021 there is no standard hitch until 301A, and then it is the Class IV 53B Package.

In the US, Trailer Tow Package (53A, includes trailer brake controller) is not standard on any trim until Limited.

In Canada, 53A is included on 302A+.

53B Class IV Hitch = 7000
You have to have 53A Heavy Duty Towing Package to get 9800.

What 53B includes depends on engine. Ecoboost get the upgrades radiator and brushless fans and 5.0 doesn't (at least the ones I looked at). However I don't think even the 53A got the upgraded radiator on the 18-20 5.0. Maybe the '21 53C does.

GCWR is Wrong on the 53B trucks I'm seeing.
7000 Tow Rating (Correct)
18100 GCWR (Max Tow Number)
That's for an '18 though.

It appears to be giving the maximum GCWR for your gear ratio without regard to your tow package.

Thank you. That info would be handy to know from Ford.
I also have the 17T Towing Technology PKG. Does this do nothing at all to enhance towing capacity? It seems that 17T + 53B covered every feature that 53A has.
Again, thanks to everyone for explaining this.

It's in the equipment chart for the different packages in the RV&TT Guides although as I stated it was incorrect on the older 5.0 53B I looked at in that they list the upgraded brushless fans which were not there.

Honestly Ford isn't real good about covering everything like you get the new full floating rear axle on ALL Powerboost and the versions of Max Tow that get the 4150 RAWR like the Screw 157 3.5EB and all HDPP. The Max Tow 145 3.5 EB I looked at didn't have it.
