Has anyone ever had to drill mounting holes in the tailgate for the latch plate for the step to lock in place? I had to replace my tailgate and bought the shell and step separately. The tailgate doesn’t have the latch plate so I need some mentoring here on drilling holes in the right place. Keep in mind I’m not
the brightest crayon in the box.

If I had to replace a tailgate, I'd buy a used part that fit my needs. Then give it to a body shop to paint.

Hello All new to forums here. I have a 2017 F 150. King Ranch Model. The Tailgate is standard. I was hoping if anyone else has upgraded from the standard tailgate purchased the flex step and installed it. I have looked all over the place other than ford.com as they only send me certified maintenance facilities. and not a way to look for parts. I will list a few questions below.

Questions:

• Does anyone know of a website that sells the flex step replacement parts?
• Has anyone ever installed a flex step onto a standard tailgate. (Basically, a tailgate that doesn't already have one installed.)
• Is it Possible?
• Or do I need to purchase the tailgate with flex step in whole.

I mainly ask because I just had knee surgery and I am having a hard time getting into the bed of my truck. I would prefer upgrading my tailgate to have the step instead of having to buy a truck that has the step already installed.

There is a thread where someone tried to add it. I think he ended up swapping the whole tailgate it’s not something you can easily add. Have you checked out the AMP research or Rough Country step that mounts under the bumper?
