Default Extra key

I saw how to program an extra key, but was wondering if anyone knew of a chipped, non flip, non pushbutton type plain key that can also be programmed to start the truck. It would be nice to have a cheap spare or 2 that can unlock and start it.

Only an opinion here.
As far as I know, you can likely have a key cut that will unlock your door but I am pretty confident there are no cheap keys that will disable the anti-theft device.
You should also identify what you are driving.
Not all things are equal, the unicorn key may exist for the XL but it will not exist for the push button start intelligent FOB.

Maybe add a signature that briefly describes you ride.

I had a cheap metal key made for my 2003 to unlock doors. It was easier to carry than the anti-theft key when I would go running. I accidentally used it in the ignition and it tripped a theft alert.
My next vehicle was GM and had a somewhat bulky head of the key but still very easy to pocket in running shorts. I do not think that is a Ford option.

Fair enough. Don't own one yet, but hopefully picking up an XL tomorrow.

just so you know at least on my xlt 2021 it came with an extra door/tail gate key. But I have a pushbutton start so its not going to help there and it is not chipped.

I have one of these for my '15 and I think it's compatible up to the '20 model year. Not sure about compatibility with a '21. If you have the door keypad, it will allow you in without tripping the anti-theft alarm. If you use the key to unlock the door, you'll have to start the truck within a few seconds to reset the alarm.

Will the alarm still trip if the doors were not locked (armed with the FOB)?

My previous vehicles would allow me to lock the doors from the inside panel and close door behind me and reenter the vehicle with the dummy key. I'm mostly certain the alarm would not self-arm if I did not use the FOB.

In my explanation I was under the impression OP would manually lock the doors and walk away and return with a dummy key to open doors.

Oh, as a matter of fact my GM does work like I say. I remember I used to quite often carry just my key. There were times I had the fob with me and locked the doors but later returned with just the key and I'd trip the alarm and had to insert key to ignition/start to silence the alarm.
A situation I can think of is parking the truck and setting alarm. Then later, another day, whatever, separating the FOB and key so I could go run. Unlock the door to leave home and the alarm sounded because the last time I exited I had the FOB with me.

I have a '21 STX. Key start, no button. I bought this key blank (in picture) and paid $30 to have it cut. It will open the door and start the truck, no problem.
I bought one of those super tuff magnet key hider boxes and stashed the key incase I ever need it.

Don't know if the door keypad activates the alarm, that's how I usually lock my truck if I don't have my fob key.

I believe (and hope) the alarm is activated with key pad. I use the buttons quite frequently as well.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Did you program the key to your truck yourself or did the place you had cut it do that for you?
