I did it myself and used simple instructions found online and it worked fine. Something like put the original key in first, then the newly cut key...

Sounds good, thanks. Got the truck today so will probably be doing this sooner than later. I like the option of having a simple cheaper key as an extra or when I'm doing something where I don't want to risk having the fob on me.

So I have the key blank, but I'm having a hell of a time finding someone to cut it for me. Two local locksmiths have not been able to do so, one saying the software on their machine isn't up to date enough, and the other saying the channel on the key is too narrow for his to cut. I made the mistake of stopping by the dealer as well, they told me they can only cut keys that they sell, which are conveniently 2 to 3 times more expensive than the one I bought. They claim that they can't run the risk of screwing up a key I brought in or some BS, but when I asked if they had any they could sell me to cut they brought out something that wasn't even close to matching my current or new uncut key and I don't have any faith in their ability to figure it out anyway. Any ideas of where I might get this thing cut?

Found a dealer outside of town that cut the key for 10 bucks. Programmed it tonight and can confirm it starts the truck. Here's a link to the key I used if anyone else wants to do this.

Amazon Amazon

Will say, the key works fine in the ignition, but has a tough
time in the door. Probably since the door hardly ever gets used it's not broken in yet.

I always have a wallet key made, dont care it the alarm goes off at least im not locked out. I did the same for my 2013 f150. idiots at the lowes counter were told it was a wallet key for emergencies. They refused and said it would not start the truck. We went round and round explaining no ****, its just to unlock the door! Getting an stx so it sounds like i can still/maybe be able to have another wallet key.
