Default drive mode selector

Does anyone not like the way to select your drive mode? (tow, eco, sport etc...) i don't like the dial, location and how its selects 4x4 option automatically, but i do like upon restart it gives the option to keep in the last mode, but you need to be quick to select ok,
i liked how my 2018 had the thumb selector,

I pretty much only use the tow mode when I’m towing. I kind of forget it’s there the rest of the time and I just drive around in normal mode.

I don’t get that that a modern automobile has things like auto headlights, memory seats, auto hi-beams and all the tech it has, but doesn’t have an option to remember or stay in the last drive mode you were in.

Yea its OK the option that pops to go back to the last mode (better than nothing) but it’s annoying, almost like a warning light. But why not just program it to remember the last mode? Or have An option to stay in last drive mode.

I’m sure most people stay on the same drive mode they were in, whether it’s eco (driving to work), sport (those who just like to have the power or to leave cylinder deactivation off) or those who are towing with tow mode.

Does anyone really change the mode FROM the regular mode to another mode and the say hey, I want to automatically switch back to regular after I turn the car off? What maybe 1/20 times? Why would they program it like that? I use eco mode 99% of the time, and yes it’s annoying I have to hit OK every time.

I prefer the vehicle start in a known state each time; I don't have to remember where I left it the last time I drove. Driving home in a snowstorm I will have it in 4A, Snow mode. The next morning the roads will be cleared and salted so I'm usually driving in Normal again. I still have to remember to take it out of 4A, though it will be in Normal already when I start it, and sometimes I'm 10-15 miles up the road before I notice it is still in 4A. Regardless, I'll just adapt to however Ford configures their drive mode algorithms and that will become the new norm.

Anyone know if Forscan can set this up the way we want it?

Thats the way i see it too. I rather it default to something safe rather than locking my rear axle, putting it in 4lo etc when starting and having to look and see what exactly it's on. Everyone has their complaints and opinions so theres always going to be differences.

Why not have a simple box in the settings to say remember last setting, or default at startup to ____.

Would be that hard of a built software wise. Would then suite all.

I agree. And it's blatantly obvious what mode you are in anyway. In sport everything is red. If your locker is on there is an indicator and traction off etc etc. In eco the entire dash is green .

Personally I use tow most of the time. It kills cylinder deactivation and isn't quite so aggressive on gearing. Say I'm buzzing at 55. In eco or normal im in 9 or 10 gear. I'll be in 6 or 7 in tow and I'm 5 or maybe 4 in sport. On my hilly crooked roads tow or sport is better than normal . I don't go shifting down 3 gears every curve. Only thing is I have to remember in tow to disable start/ stop. In sport it defaults to off.

I hate the drive mode selector because it automatically engages the locker in slippery mode which is the first 4x4 mode. Anyone who has ever owned a locker will tell you how stupid that is in snow. (I currently have 2 vehicle with both ends locked and one with the rear) . Park on a hill or on a bridge with a slope, as soon as the wheels slip your into the side. Ive never owned any other vehicle that turned the lockers on by default in any mode other than rock crawl (which is laughable in most vehicles to call any mode rock crawl, an fx4? A cherokee with 2 inches clearance? A forrester?... that's not rock crawling... that's transversing gravel. And not even 2+ gravel. Your in washed stone/ crusher run territory lol). Even my rubicon has the lockers off by default . Even in low.

Lockers are excellent in about .05 percent of situations. There is no substitute if you need them. But Lockers will only get you off a hill or over into something in the other 99.95%. I install lockers. I run lockers. Ive used lockers in a hundred situations. I know lockers.

mine does NOT engage the locker in slippery mode just 4H to engage the locker I have to push the button on the center of the drive mode selector

This comes up regularly.

Lets give the same answers again...

1) No, FORSCAN cannot change what mode the Truck defaults to.
2) Normal is selected because that is the Mode that the vehicle was EPA certified with...Atleast the 21+ trucks ask if you want to stay.

PS - Slippery mode DOES not engage the locker by default.
