Remote start would be an alternative to this - have to say, that sounds like a really annoying "feature" but i understand why it's done.

I'm sure they would like to rip the horn right outta my truck.

I got into the habit of not closing the door all the way, just on the first catch.

The double honk is a real mis step by ford.
Shoulda been just a light beep or something much less obtrusive than the dam horn going off
.
Agree 100%, absolute worst feature on these trucks. Last straw for me was getting out to hook up my trailer in the driveway at 2:30 AM only to have that god forsaken double honk get my dog barking in the house which in turn woke up my kids and wife, no one was happy that morning. GM does the double honk better with a much quieter alert.

I've done the same dam thing with the early morning trailer hook ups.
Funny (but not really) is that I would get out and close the door without thinking and just as I let go...i remember and then the honk honk sounds out!

I also see why they do it...but if we could find the wiring from where the dbl honk signal is sent, and possibly rewire it to a separate and much fainter beep sound module that would be great.
Doubt it would be an easy task tho!

If Ford is rolling this out onto all trims, we're going to be hearing a lot more about this!

The double honk is generated in the BCM. There is no wiring to modify. Just disable it with Forscan.

Ya I could do that...but was thinking if I could re-direct that signal to a more softer sounding beep, kind of like you hear on higher trim luxury cars.

I never really thought about it this way. New perspective. I have sometimes gotten out of the truck to check trailer clearance or to toss something in the bed with my keys in my pocket while it was running, and when it honks at me I usually think "ok fine here's the keys" and I toss them on the driver seat. But I have only ever used the FOB to remote start it on the super cold mornings, yes it would be very annoying to get the double honk at 5:30am. Hmm.

Whatever you did would have to replace the horn itself.

I don't think that's true though. My wife's 2016 CR-V, which cost 1/3 of what my truck cost... has a soft beep for exactly this purpose. And obviously the horn works fine.

Honda doesn't use the horn. Ford does. Ford doesn't have separate wires ran to the horn just for the double honk. The BCM honks the horn. Want to get rid of the double honk without turning it off in the BCM with Forscan, whatever you do will affect the horn itself.

Of course the easiest solution would be to turn the truck off before you get out.
