Default Deciding between F150 2.7 XLT 4x4 and Ridgeline RTL

Ok Id like to get a truck. I dont really need it for hauling or towing just more or less for the convenience of having something with a bed for chores, home repair/yard stuff, firewood so the hauling and towing numbers mean little to nothing to me. Doing my research ive eliminated several of the competitors id looked at. Im also in ZERO rush to get something I can wait on the best deal as I already have a paid off 2020 Subaru Forester.

Eliminated have been the Ranger,Frontier,Tacoma,Colorado/Canyon,Maverick mostly because from time to time I may actually need to carry human beings of ADULT size in the back.. not often but sometimes.. and id rather they had a decent ride..only 2 I looked at was the Ridgeline and F150 that did that(i realize almost all the full size trucks will do that but i picked the F150 specifically the 2.7 for its good MPG) out of the ones I looked at/researched.

Ive done my research on the Ridgeline already and driven one it was good like driving my wives old 2015 Honda Pilot so I was used to how it drove, had acceptable MPG(almost same as F150 though) and more room in back than any of the other mid size and small trucks.

Now on to the F150 I have been looking at 2021-2022 XLT 2.7 4x4 with in the 20's or 30's mileage wise(or less) and that had all the stuff the Ridgeline RTL had(heated seats, blind spot monitor, passenger and driver power adjustable seats, the trailer backup thingy(assist its called maybe), loved the room in the interior(ive sat in one but the battery was dead never got a test drive) the center console was great, seats seemed comfortable, the ones ive looked at many had the FX4 package(browsing online) and thats fine,

my biggest hesitation with a 21/23 2.7 XLT 4x4 is that with 20-30K miles im buying someone esle problem.. with the Ridgeline its gonna be a low mile CPO with the CPO warranty so im not as worried there..Does Ford offer anything similar or would it just be a extended warranty?

Ok what should I look for with the 21/22's as far as issues? anything else I should know? Suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

That's like trying to decide between a Civic and a Town Car.... 2 completely different vehicles that do their own things great but don't compare.to each other at all.
You can get bumper to bumper warranties on F150's that go up to 150K miles. Maybe look at Ford Blue Advantage certified. I would also suggest buying from a local dealer that you can easily access and deal with. They should want to build a relationship with you as a potential lifetime customer. That goes for either brand. Ask for a tour of their service department.

The thing that makes me lean towards the F150 was the Aluminum body, for Northern climates its a big plus.
I love Honda had many CRV's over the years, I considered the Ridgeline,
but it came down to the size of the F150 for travelling long distances provided a much more comfortable and spacious ride.

You're going to hear a lot of comments saying how the Ridgeline isn't a truck or that it can't compare...etc.

If it was me I would definitely buy the Ridgeline over every other model you list!
The Ridgeline has the inner bed storage, has a fold down or swing out tailgate and is essentially an AWD SUV with a truck bed.
It is easy to get in & out of and comes equipped with many great features.

If I had to buy a new truck right now Ford wouldn't be on my list!
Fords are way overpriced, and lack the level of quality expected with a vehicle of that price tag.

You will also get way better service from a Honda dealer then you ever will from a Ford dealer.

Good luck!

I have a 2021 XLT 302a, 3.55 Electronic lock RR Axle, Co-pilot 360 assist 2/0, power-sliding rear window, trailer tow package, 360-degree cameras. I do not use the Pro trailer backing assist very often, as I have been backing trailers for many decades. Have 27,000 miles on it. Mine was a little slow on OTA updates(a job 1 2021), but once they kicked in they started coming regularly and I am up to date. I would not buy one that is stuck and not up to date. Love the the 12" center stack display. I do wish it had power folding standard mirrors, I may do that upgrade myself.

I love the truck and the little 2.7L twin turbo, I will be 80 this year, but I still like to go vroom vroom on freeway on ramps. It can get 24 MPG on a road trip. I find it very conformable on trips. It has been between Washington and Arizona 2.5 times towing an utility trailer(15-16 MPG}.

Luckily we have done deals with both in the past, the one I sat in the F150 also used to double as the Honda dealership(that got spun off to another dealer) the Ford one we got a Freestyle from in the past and also dealt with with other vehicles. the Other Ford place we actually got my Wives VW Atlas from(the local VW place didnt have any back during the "shortage" the Ford place had a 21 Atlas SE with Technology package so we have also dealt with them. I was working as a driver for their Subaru dealership(same big regional owner) for a while so I trust them also.

In a way your right its just that with trucks.. these 2 made the cut the others didnt for a reason or 2 I guess.. mostly with the full sizes it was MPG and reliability

For me it doesnt matter if others consider it a truck/not a truck im just in it for the bed and amenities I dont really need any of the other stuff the truck does..just the bed..unfortunately no other mid size seems to take into account Adults in the back seat and not having 2 people sharing a arm rest actually not having to sit on top of each other lol. All the other mid sizes seemed to have back seats for kids 12 and under only OR were small like the inside of the forester. Its fine when its just me but put the wife in there and wanting to try to use the arm rest your fighting for it.. Just gathering Info though I wont actually be doing anything till summer/mid summer or later in the year.

Nice, i cant back a trailer for crap.. I have a fishing kayak on a jet ski trailer that it for towing loo.. the forester can fo it so ANY truck can. my issue is backing them up.. never had to still cant after owning that for 2 years lol. I just thought the system on the F150 was great for non backers like me.

See I didnt realize all the update stuff and issues with that I will definitely check on those.. I actually did notice a couple I looked at said(carfax) no accidents. good/great value but 1 open recall..now I know that a bit more than just saying DO THAT lol.

I often drive between PA and NY state about 3 hours 1 way..other than that around here its mostly taking the wife to work and going fishing which is back country roads and or city..but its maybe a 6 mile round trip for wife to work.. and we take her car sometimes.. we try to keep 1 from sitting for a whole week.

The Ridgeline will be a whole lot easier to park in parking lots; it's a lot smaller. F-150 is a lot more vehicle and will have considerably more power and interior room. My current choice for a mid size truck would be Colorado/Canyon. I have a rural property and need the better ground clearance (and "truckiness" for towing/hauling) to get in and out of what my wife calls the pig trail going into the property. 🤷

It really sounds like the Ridgeline would be the more appropriate choice given your use/needs description. I personally wouldn't be happy with one.
