The "jaws" expand when a cup is inserted into the cup holder.

The thing is that I'm having a hell of a time getting the cup in. I have to use a lot of force to get insert the cup. This resulted in me spashing coffee in my brand new truck. Less than 10 kms on truck. Maybe I'll try a different cup.

Well the size of the cup was the problem, tried a different cup and slid right in.

Maybe a little silicone spray on the bumps. They might just be "grabby".

Does your cup have a rubber bottom? I had one like that and always had to fight to get it into the holders on my wife's car.

The cup is just too wide at the bottom. Smaller cup works no problem.

I find it easier to insert the cup at a slight angle vs straight in. The cupholders give my wife a fit, she grips about it just about every time she is in the truck, lol
