Default Crash detection ability

2024 XLT. On two occasions over a few months I’ve had my truck, the truck senses I’m coming up on a vehicle too quick, sets off the alarm and brakes. No adaptive cruise control set. Both times it was not a situation where I actually would have rear-ended the vehicle, in fact it’s probably went off prematurely in my opinion, but I understand the safety technology involved and appreciate it. My question is will my truck actually stop itself completely on its own, even without adaptive cruise on? I’ve always applied the brakes myself when this happens so I don’t know if it would’ve actually stopped completely. I assume it would?

This should link to the mode in the owners manual.

Stop completely? Unlikely...the system simply senses a situation that based upon the parameters programmed into it that it "takes action". I drive pretty aggressively and have had the warning flash maybe a dozen times or so, but no braking action was taken by the truck...so in my opinion they have very conservative settings...which is good. I don't need some damned 'nanny' driving for me.

My wife's Edge ST has "collision avoidance" which, if I read the manual correctly, will have it automatically steer around an impending collision...DEFINITELY something I would not want!

I don't mind this feature except for when I am turning around on country roads with tall weeds in the ditches. It will hit the brakes and makes my life miserable until I turn it off. LOL

I haven't tried yet but am wondering if a certain drive mode will automatically turn this off.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the system. I drive in Dallas in traffic and had to turn it down a few notches.

I was driving in dark country road in a snow storm, and the truck detects a front collision, where I can clearly see nothing but empty roads ahead, so happy it didn’t brake. Must be something mess up with the sensor, does the detection uses cameras or radar?

.
so you’re saying it will apply the brakes by itself?

I hate it when a car is making a left turn while I'm going straight and it frantically flashes that red **** at me as I squeeze the steering wheel until my knuckles become white.. then nothing happens.

I did read it. There’s been conflicting replies on this thread. I was asking a question to a particular individual to understand his situation. Thx for the link, that reply was helpful.
