Coyote V8 belt driven oil pump?
You should able to know when youre on 4 cylinders when you reset the fuel mileage driving around town.
No mother****er. You can't tell when its working, that means it's so smooth it's imperceptible
. If they put an indicator, every Tom, Dick and Larry would be staring at it with eye daggers waiting to bitch **** and moan about it.
Bahahah they didn't put an indicator light, I love it, and this statement is precisely why. "The cylinder deactivation seems pretty smooth so far, but I can't tell when it's on. Is there any indicator?"

I would try to stay in 4 cylinder mode as much as possible. IE: Hills for instance. Could you remain in eco 4 cylinder mode if you get a running start up some hills?
Yes sir, the new truck does have a 5.0. Very happy to be getting back into the the naturally aspirated V8 segment of the F-150. The last 5.0 I had was a 16 and I was extremely happy with it. Like you said, it was bulletproof! Moved up to 2 different 3.5 then to a 2.7 in my current 19..
Why are you glad to not have an EcoBoost?
Hey Boo, it's not like that! There's nothing wrong with EcoBoost. I'm just excited because I build the 5 litre where I work at EEP and I haven't had the chance to test the Gen 4 5.0 yet.
I trade out trucks every 6 months to a year and for the past few years I've been driving only EcoBoost. My family and I love camping so I tow a 25 foot trailer at around 7,000 lb. I figured out that every engine in the lineup does a very specific job and some are better than the others. For example the 2.7 is a fantastic everyday driver. It pulls my trailer okay but it will never go past 8 gear. Now the 3.5 is an Ecobeast. It pulls my trailer absolutely effortlessly but it was fairly hard on gas and I had a few issues with a bad turbo on one then bad wastegate rattles on another. Damn thing sounded like a tractor when I started it cold.
So I'm very curious how the Gen 4 5.0 will do.

Having worked for 8 1/2 years in engineering at the EB engine plant, I can say that the idea of a belt driven oil pump would be absurd. All organizations must hire new people when old ones retire. (me being the latter) It amazes me that educated kids cannot even add and subtract without a computer, and now, at least one can look at a chain and still call it a belt. Got to weed out the interns....

As for durability I really can't speak too much about it. Maybe in a few months from now I can give some information on my findings with my vehicle.
As for some of the standard issues like oil consumption I know that our engineers have been working diligently to tackle the issue and we've made several changes to help combat this issue. For example we've changed the ring pack for the Pistons to a new style that is a little more robust and steals better against the cross hatching in the cylinder walls. There are other changes but sadly I am not at Liberty to talk about at this time.

On one particular Ford parts website they listed my 2013 5.0 steel timing chain as a timing belt. The 3.0 Power Stroke not only has an oil pump belt like the 5.0, but also a timing belt. Perhaps the 3.0 timing belt will be ok since that engine turns at lower rpms? In the service manual both belts are to be inspected at 150,000 miles. Unfortunately, they put the 3.0 oil pump at the rear of the engine and you must remove the transmission to access the belt.
